our players kept doing to taunt Oklahoma? Holding the nose and waving goodbye? Yall stink, goodbye? Or some deeper meaning? Lol! I've missed that in the past.
Great game yesterday!
Great game yesterday!
You have a point. Would be nice if you had the same energy for fans giving players the finger, telling them to go back to the ghetto just because they are losing a game, and worse gestures/name calling that has been going on for decades..It sucks; they need to cut that crap out. There's an anti-discipline trend that is infecting football now. I guess the most blatant recent example would be the Alabama player defying the coach who was trying to take him out of the game and the two USF players who got in a fight with each other on the sideline last night. But all these gesticulations to opposing fans are trashy - bush-league - low rent.
I would like to see us conduct ourselves as though we are familiar with success. It sucks; they need to cut that crap out. There's an anti-discipline trend that is infecting football now. So you really applying footbal to the regular world? That's a mistake. Sort of the same as the Dolphins hiring Cam Cameron as their coach instead of Mike Tomlin because he was so-called too Hip-Hop. Tomlin is a champion and still coaching with the Steelers. The Dolphins fired Cam Cameron after one year and have been a revolving door in their head coaching position ever since.@adcoop brought "ghetto" into this thread so I will crystalize my thoughts: ghetto antics are taking over our collegiate sports (and youthful society, for that matter). It's not a good look. And if these athletes don't make it to "the league" it will not serve them well in other legal endeavors.
Could you see Jim Brown doing this crap? Or even Barry Sanders? Or even Tom Brady? Or condoning it?I would like to see us conduct ourselves as though we are familiar with success.
Beyond that, a team with a 4-3 record shouldn’t be talking trash.
I was taught to help the opposing player get back up.Could you see Jim Brown doing this crap? Or even Barry Sanders? Or even Tom Brady? Or condoning it?
....and Jim Brown retired from the NFL in 1965. King you are usually a smart guy, but you have a tendency to want to impose the standards of 60 years ago on everyone. I guess we all shouldn't be using the internet. We got along just fine without in the 1960's.Could you see Jim Brown doing this crap? Or even Barry Sanders? Or even Tom Brady? Or condoning it?
....and you are absolutely wrong about Tom Brady. He did a lot of talking. Didn't come up with elaborate celebrations, but he let the other team know that they sucked all the time.Could you see Jim Brown doing this crap? Or even Barry Sanders? Or even Tom Brady? Or condoning it?
Let's try a little nuanced thinking. The players are on the stage; the fans are not. The fans are vocal bystanders and are of little relevance otherwise beyond their ticket purchases. If anything, greater cultural edification would derive from players saluting their own fans when something praiseworthy happens instead of assailing fans of the opposition. Coaches, administrators, teachers, adults in general, should be promoting a better brand of fun.You have a point. Would be nice if you had the same energy for fans giving players the finger, telling them to go back to the ghetto just because they are losing a game, and worse gestures/name calling that has been going on for decades..
I hope you're not trying to say that men with the gravitas of Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, or Jerry Rice would be doing this crap today.....and Jim Brown retired from the NFL in 1965. King you are usually a smart guy, but you have a tendency to want to impose the standards of 60 years ago on everyone. I guess we all shouldn't be using the internet. We got along just fine without in the 1960's.
He did not....and you are absolutely wrong about Tom Brady. He did a lot of talking. Didn't come up with elaborate celebrations, but he let the other team know that they sucked all the time.
Nuanced thinking. He did not make a habit of performing antagonizing gesticulations to the opponent's fans during the contest. Did he?....and you are absolutely wrong about Tom Brady. He did a lot of talking. Didn't come up with elaborate celebrations, but he let the other team know that they sucked all the time.
Change happens. Some is salutary; some is not.....and Jim Brown retired from the NFL in 1965. King you are usually a smart guy, but you have a tendency to want to impose the standards of 60 years ago on everyone. I guess we all shouldn't be using the internet. We got along just fine without in the 1960's.
I am not a supporter of excessive celebration .... especially in football.Great game yesterday!
"Act like You've been there before!"Could you see Jim Brown doing this crap? Or even Barry Sanders? Or even Tom Brady? Or condoning it?
Most of the guys being quoted on here are dead. Nothing stays the same. Do what you need to do to play well without getting penalties. None of these gestures were penalized, so what are we talking about."Act like You've been there before!"
Walter Peyton

Walter Peyton IS DEAD ... 99.99% of these thugs NOW playing football will NEVER BE REMEMBERED.Most of the guys being quoted on here are dead. Nothing stays the same. Do what you need to do to play well without getting penalties. None of these gestures were penalized, so what are we talking about.

Drugs like Steroid Bonds & Sammy 'Corked Bat' Soso ,,,,,, care to discuss further???

You got issues. What do baseball players that played in the 90's have to do with the subject. Nothing worse than being an angry old person. Should be mellowing during this time as you are closer to meeting your maker with each passing day, but you be you. Since you had to expose yourself with the thug talk, a 29 year old white assistant coach exposed Cam Ward to this celebration.Walter Peyton IS DEAD ... 99.99% of these thugs NOW playing football will NEVER BE REMEMBERED.

Um... they all played offense. Did or have any of our offensive players "celebrated" like that?Could you see Jim Brown doing this crap? Or even Barry Sanders? Or even Tom Brady? Or condoning it?
I would take that celebration from our offensive players if that would get them to play better.Um... they all played offense. Did or have any of our offensive players "celebrated" like that?
Discipline, class, and standards. And representing a large, broad, and diverse community and not primarily oneself.
Defensive players weren't doing it that way in those days. They mainly celebrated with each other, and their fans, so even animated celebrations were not as classless. I'll view our highlights and give you my observations.Um... they all played offense. Did or have any of our offensive players "celebrated" like that?
Which is not a welcome trend. These are dying notions in a lot more than just our sports teams.
Sanders did not on his TD run. Simply handed the ball to the official and bumped fists with a teammate. Joshua Simon's celebration on his touchdown catch was more demonstrative but directed at our fans.Um... they all played offense. Did or have any of our offensive players "celebrated" like that?
-- "So you(sic) really applying footbal(sic) to the regular world?" Yes I am -- it's a correlation often drawn; football = life.So you really applying footbal to the regular world? That's a mistake. Sort of the same as the Dolphins hiring Cam Cameron as their coach instead of Mike Tomlin because he was so-called too Hip-Hop. Tomlin is a champion and still coaching with the Steelers. There is nothing wrong with the you stink gesture and that's why the refs don't penalize it. Now, the Dylan Stewart celebration is not acceptable in any form or fashion. However, to expect these players to take the abuse they get especially from opposing teams' fans and have no response back is absurd.
Marcus Lattimore simply handed the ball to the nearest official every time he scored.Sanders did not on his TD run. Simply handed the ball to the official and bumped fists with a teammate. Joshua Simon's celebration on his touchdown catch was more demonstrative but directed at our fans.
He was an exceptional young man even in his era.Marcus Lattimore simply handed the ball to the nearest official every time he scored.
People without those things, can’t recognize them as positive traits.Discipline, class, and standards. And representing a large, broad, and diverse community and not primarily oneself.
It's up to the rest of us to be vigilant in advocating them.People without those things, can’t recognize them as positive traits.
