the Sun Belt Conference now has a tie in with the Independence Bowl.

Guess we might get a shot at avenging some of the Troy debacles.

It also appears as if the Sun Belt did away with their New Orleans Bowl bid. I sincerely hope that the SEC picks that one up, so that we can go to New Orleans after going 6-6. Obviously, I would prefer the Sugar Bowl, but I'll take a trip to New Orleans any day.

I never want to see Troy State on the field again.

Their deal with the Sun Belt is a contingency deal in case either the SEC or the Big 12 isn't able to provide a bowl eligible team. The Sun Belt champion still goes to the New Orleans Bowl.

We're about at the breaking point where it's possible there may not even be enough bowl eligible teams to fill all the bowl spots. My guess is if neither the SEC or the Big 12 could supply a team, the Indy Bowl would try to work out a trade with another bowl to avoid a Sun Belt - Sun Belt rematch. But if they couldn't do that, I think we'd see one. Back in the old days, it wasn't uncommon to see 2 SEC teams play each other in a bowl. Of course, those matchups were a lot more attractive than this one would be.

Edited to add: I do think it will be a close game. And in a close game with 8 months for the coaches to prepare, I'm going with the team with the better coach. And that ain't even close.
