Except for the KO references, that could have been a speech after the Jax St game

It takes a special coach to be able to tell it like it is. Beamer doesn’t have the chops yet.

He was also not coming off of 3 straight 11 win seasons - have to keep things in perspective.

Beamer could learn a lot here. Don't tell the fans they have miserable lives when the team underperforms. Praise the other team. Say how they were better than maybe our guys expected - which is on us, the coaches. And be thankful for the victory. Then say we'll celebrate this victory for a day (without describing how much dancing there was in the lockerroom after beating JState) and then begin preparing for Vandy. His schtick is starting to wear thin and is reminiscent of Dabo (If Clemson were a stock...).

Yes. I think it’s the way Beamer comes at it. His over-exuberance almost makes it seem like he’s compensating bc he knows we should beat teams of this caliber more soundly. Your approach would have been acceptable. But he goes overboard in saying “we’re gonna celebrate the heck out of this win.” It’s one thing to say “hey, we’re glad we won. We’re going to enjoy it.” It’s another to say you’re gonna celebrate the heck out of it.

I miss that dude.

Beamer began to tell it like it is. Called out the players for not doing what the calls on D told them to do. He got blasted for it.
100%. Beamer did this exact thing and was blasted by some of the same people on this board. But a couple of things to keep in mind. This was HBCs 9th year here and he was coming off of a 4 year stretch that included a SEC East championship and 3 straight 11 win seasons. Beamer is still in the middle of overhauling a roster.

Do y’all not remember “what do you want me to do, Ron?!”? Or how about “well, gotta coach better, gotta play better. It is what it is. Sumpin lie cat. *toothsuck*”.

There's a lot that goes into it. Timing, delivery, tone, mannerisms. All the greats mastered it...Bowden, Spurrier, Paterno, Saban. It's a bit awkward right now, like watching a fawn take its first steps, but Beamer will get there. Or maybe he'll just always be Dabo-esque. If he wins games, I don't give a hoot what he says or how he says it.

SOS only mastered it because he had a reputation if winning. If Beamer came into these press conferences saying some of the things SOS said, he would be run out of the building.

That helps. But he was a straight shooter even early on at UF. He just had a knack for it. Of issues Beamer has to deal with, this one is fairly far down on the list. But this is the kind of stuff you talk about when you're having a season where you struggle to beat Jacksonville State. People don't talk too much about pressers when you're winning.

Agreed but he was critical of our fans/program from day 1. Was he shooting straight? For sure. No way Beamer would get away with that. He has to earn the ability to be honest, as sad as that sounds.

I hated Spurrier's delivery, tone, mannerisms after a L. Not sure what the point here is. Maybe Beamer will be so awesome with the media he'll tell them he's only go to hang around a couple more years and completely decimate the program. After all, HBC was the best right?

Whatever your position, you know the season is not going well when postgame pressers are a key topic of discussion.

We all know that "find some joy" means "you'll have to find your joy elsewhere"
I find joy following and watching my alma mater. If it were just about following a team that won a bunch, I'd just go be a Bama fan. But that's just me.

You cannot have found any joy in Saturday's game, no matter what you say. Relief maybe.

I can't imagine how bad my life would have to be to have found joy in Saturday's game, lol.

I did. Got a W, and got to see some big time players make big time plays. Was it messy? Yes. Did we play well overall? No. But it doesn't matter. I'm not in a position to change anything about it. I control what I can control, which is to just be happy with a win. I can't do anything about our porous D, or the fact that we've had our 9th different starting 5 in 9 games on the OL.

Can't imagine how bad my life would have to be for a game that I have no control over to have hurt my feelings so bad.

Lack of joy does not equate to hurt feelings.

Honestly, a loss wouldn't have made much a difference to me. Am I glad we at least barely escaped with a win? Sure. But it was a game that could have very easily gone the other way, and very nearly did. It's a game we were extremely fortunate to win. Win or lose, this game spoke volumes about the state of the program. At this point in a disastrous season, I'm looking at the big picture. And it's not good. I've never been one to look simply at the outcome of a game and ignore big picture issues. The team and program has some very serious, systemic issues. It's beyond chalking up to aw shucks doggone bad luck with injuries.

There's an old adage that you learn more from your failures than you do your victories, but I dunno, we sure learned an awful lot on Saturday.

I'm not sure what that post proves? The point of the video is that SOS was blunt about having a bad team.
Bc it makes absolutely ZERO impact on the team itself. It's moronic for people to hang onto every word of a post game presser the way some do, and somehow try to link that the performance of the team.

So as long as you say you suck, while sucking, and get worse from the point of admitting to everyone you suck, you're good? Is that the point? Boy, I really MISS the days of 2014 when HBC told us he sucked, then quit on us in the middle of the season the next year b/c he couldn't cut it anymore. That was sooooo much fun!!

Yes, I would rather a coach be honest with me instead of telling us how great we are going to be and getting my hopes up for a big letdown. Maybe they are just trying scam us into buying season tickets.

When Beamer is as relentlessly positive as he is, it makes me wonder if he's that bad at assessing the team? Or does he know we suck and he's just putting on a brave public face. At least with SOS you could pretty well tell he had an idea where the team stood for most of his tenure here.

He literally said 2 seconds after talking about celebrating the win that they know they have a lot to improve on, and they didn't coach well Saturday. He has said time and time again that having only 2 wins isn't good enough, and they expect better. He has said time and time again they need to do better coaching, players need to do a better job executing. But I understand, that doesn't fit the narrative you guys are trying to parrot.

It just doesn't ring true. When he says we're going to "celebrate like heck" after a nail-biter win over Jacksonville State, it's hard to know. I think you celebrate like heck after a win over Clemson, or a bowl game or something of that magnitude. To say we're going to celebrate like heck after a thinnest-of-margins win over Jacksonville State just makes me wonder. I HOPE and ASSUME he knows deep down inside that it was a crappy performance not really worthy of a raucous celebration.

It's kind of like when SOS came and chided our fans for cheering the team after a loss. The response should be proportionate the game.

For me it all comes back to the state of the program. If we have players dancing in celebration after a win over Jacksonville State, in a game we could have just as easily lost, we are not in a good place.

Yes, I know for you, anyone who is critical is immediately a grumpy old man.

Sort of like not celebrating in the streets because we finished 12th in basketball instead of 14th.
haha...nobody was celebrating in the streets. Just like now with football. I've been very critical of the play this year. But saying the team shouldn't be happy with a win misses me.

My only contention is that it's not a win worthy of dancing. I said above, an appropriate response would have been "We're glad we won. We're going to enjoy it." It was a win worthy of measured happiness and relief, not exuberance.

Both of you are arguing semantics.

I agreenwith the earlier statement, that win didn't bring joy as much as it brought relief.

But then you're arguing about different levels of happiness. Hardly worthy of getting worked up over, imo.

Dabo Swinney used this exact strategy to help build a national championship caliber team. He didn't care who the opponent was, or what the score was. After the game, they danced! And yeah, I made fun of him. Then they started winning NCs. I'd rather play for a guy that doesn't miss an opportunity celebrate.
