**I remember when having your alma mater on TV was a big deal.
**I remember, with fondness, when you could see the marching bands of both schools on TV at halftime.
**I remember when college football players thought a full scholarship was payment enough for their services.
**I remember when Penn State actually had an elite football program.
**I remember when Mrs. Gambit was visiting her sister in Las Vegas and Jenna Fischer helped me decorate our Christmas tree.

So was shopping for Penn State baby booties on College Ave with friends. We still have them.
The following week, my engineering friends accumulated so many baby gifts for our new born and presented them outside of Snyder at the East Commons, today Findlay, I believe.
Very nice gesture by your friends.

Our wonderful class mate Danny Walko dropped out of engineering and became an Army Medic
In the past, when I had business at the court house, l would visit the Fallen Wall and say a prayer and personal tribute to Danny. He was a wonderful person, and friend.

We were so lucky to have been a part of those days. Not that everything was just perfect then, but on so many levels I wouldn't trade those days for what the younger generations had or now have for anything.

Nits, my best friend (75) insists that we have lived in the best of times….and I agree with him more and more every day. In so so many ways the world we are living in has peaked and has begun to head slowly downhill. It’s all very very sad.

Absolutely agree. On occasion, at a social event, I will talk to a younger person about those days and more than a few have said "I wish I had been alive then." That saddens me.

Sad indeed, and I agree, but I wonder if the passing of time has clouded our vision. I hope not, but...
As Streisand sang:
"Memories, may be beautiful and yet,
What's too painful to remember,
We simply choose to forget.
So it's the laughter we will remember.
Whenever we remember the way we were. "

Well I faithfully get my annual vision exam the first week in January every year.

BUT

You may be right…..it’s now November and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing Sat afternoon! 😵💫

My wife and I have similar conversations, and I agree with you. Any country that would have as its probable candidates for President the disgraced 77 year old Donald Trump and the aged 81 year old Joe Biden simply has to be on a fast track toward serious decline. Sooo many things are wrong in Washington with both parties. All that seems to matter is to "win" politically. The concept of governing intelligently, fairly, and with some sense of a principled moral compass seems somehow outdated.

A month ago I woke up with perfect vision! This would not be so surprising, except I have worn glasses since I was ten. Then, two weeks ago I went back to normal, for me, meaning putting my glasses back on. I get my vision tested in a couple weeks too. It will be interesting to see what the Doc says.

Ditto.

I don't know about you, but I am 68 and in my head I think just the way I did when I was in my twenties. I remember asking my then 80 year old mother "How does it feel to be old?". She said, "My body feels every year, but my brain is the same as when I was young."

Aging is hell, but it beats the alternative. Too many old friends have not made it this far. I have outlived my Dad (he died when I was ten) and Grandfather by 25 years. I miss my Dad every day. I never met my Grandfather, he died when I was a baby, but he left me with the family bald spot (which is more a landing strip than a spot nowadays).

One last memory before I go off to the Diner to catch the early bird senior breakfast special.

It was 1975 and I attended a Penn State student "leadership" event in August, before the school year started. We were doing one of those team building exercises, sitting on the floor in a circle and taking turns to tell something about ourselves. A Vietnam Vet, there were plenty of them on campus at that time, passed around a joint that was about as big as an infants arm. When it got to sheltered me I did not know what to do with it. I learned.

I hope you younger folk will forgive me as I always remark, when asked, 'I'm Hangin' In!'

As a brash 13 year old, I once said to my Uncle Theo that I did not want to get old. His reply was very truthful - 'You will want to stay around as long as you can.' Now at 80, almost 81, I might forget a book or movie title, the name of an actor or singer during some conversation .... but each and every day does bring something to be thankful about. I have beaten a heart attack, 6 operations on my heart, 19 operations total, cancer with one more shot in January -- I lost my Father on Thanksgiving Day, 1980, my first grandson at Easter, 2007 -- and now, what is stopping me other than to keep going as a GOAT and PITA as best as I can be.

OK - my TM statement - 'every sunrise and every sunset is a blessing' @CRO -keeps my head in gear, my book on Amazon and hard work writing a movie script from one of the essays, and a business plan that is still available ...... oh well, why not.
Then on another topic -- another TM - 'The strength of our country will not be in the inclusion of people – it will be the Principles we keep, not the imaginary ideas and whims of those who will bend over backwards to please'…… @CRO --

To one and all -- 'Take Care........ '

I so vividly remember having a conversation with my daughter about growing up on the sixties. She was at the time doing a paper on the Kennedy assassination and at one point remarked, "....it must have been awful to go through all that with the death of John Kennedy, MLK, Bobby, the burning cities and the like" (paraphrased). I told her all those things were awful but as I look back I see the best years of my life

I remember when the football coach had tenure, and was paid like a professor.
I remember bands, too. Now, it is nonstop yapping.
See #1 about coaches. They are overpaid, and kids see that. Look at the Majors of our football players today. Criminal Justice is a big one. Parks and Recreation, too.
Penn State was cyclical under Joe, except 1967-1969, 1978-1986, and 1991-1996,

You know, I'll never forgive James Gunn for dumping her when he got popular. His new girl is cute though not in the 'girl next door' mold like Jenna....
