I'm an old fogey but not a fan of the new lights

Just saw a clip online. Hard to tell if it was a football stadium or a discoteque.

Went to my first college football game in a long time this past season and was surprised at how much extra noise there was. They could not allow a half second that wasn't filled with some kind of music or announcement or just random noise.

I'm sure the lights will be a hit with recruits and young folk.

I’m with you. Don’t care for all the manufactured noises

For me, it's just one more reason to say home and watch on tv.
Yes. And, is it just me or have manners gone by the wayside? Used to be most were more considerate of others. I started noticing people being more aggressive. Standing most of the game and to hell with the ones seated behind them. Projectile cursing regardless of women and children. Made watching from home preferable

With all due respect, each of us is entitled to his/her opinion. This board is a place each of us can do just that. But I would never go so far as to try to impose my will over others just because I don't like something or I don't get my way on an issue. Whether we like it or not, college football is in the entertainment business and competes with other venues for fannies in the seats. Also it's important to keep the game relevant to the younger crowd cause they represent the future success or lack thereof of the college game. Just a few ramblings from an old dinosaur.

Oh yes. I get all of that. At a football game, football is all the entertainment I want or need, personally speaking

I just saw the new lights - what's not to like? Seems they'll just crank it up for 2001 and after a big play. Give it a chance - I'll bet people like it (even the naysayers) once they're in the stadium.

The college football game I went to last year, we had to stand basically the entire game. I think most people wanted to sit, but it's a domino effect. Folks in front of me had to stand b/c the folks in front of them had to stand b/c the folks in front of them had to stand b/c the folks in front of them were standing.

It's not the end of the world, of course, it's just kind of sad that the game itself isn't enough to keep people's attention.

Obviously it's all a slow trickle down of people needing to be entertained in some way or another from the time they are kids. One thing we tried to teach our kids this summer is that it's ok to be bored. Even we got sucked into the trap of constantly giving them a diversion, but we realized it was getting out of control and started to pull back on it. When I was kid, being bored was part of life. In the summer, mom would kick us out of the house after breakfast and we just had to entertain ourselves outside until lunch with no toys. Just had to make stuff up. We'd go for a week to our grandparents house where there was NOTHING to do...literally. No tv. No books. No toys. You just went outside and kicked rocks or played with tree limbs or whatever. And my parents didn't give a hoot that we were bored.

We've created a generation of people that need constant stimulation, which is where the light thing comes from. But I suppose there are worse things that can happen. If the lights land us a 5* recruit, then I'll change my tone!

I think comparing a football game to everyday life is a stretch.

A football game is about entertainment and cheering on ones favorite team. An escape from the norm of work, dinner, sleep and repeat for many. As entertainment it should be as fun as possible without taking away from the game itself.

For the older folks like me, think of it as a concert at a football game. Pink Floyd, Def Leppard, Reba McEntire, The Eagles, Rolling Stones, etc… all had great light shows and gimmicks to enhance the experience.

At the end of the game, what matters most is Gamecocks with the W!

We agree on the last point!

We could have a whole thread on standing/sitting, and we have in the past.

Imo, it's like driving on the highway. Anyone driving faster than you is a nut, and anyone driving slower needs to get out of the way. And everyone, no matter what speed they drive thinks that.

I stood for most of the games when younger, and I stood if people were standing in front of me. I never asked anyone to sit. As I got older, standing wasn't as fun, and I did it less. But, imho, standing is part of the GameDay experience, and if someone don't want to stand at all, perhaps the couch is the better place.

You are probably right. I certainly stood at times. As you said, more when I was younger. Don’t want to stand most of the time now. That’s why the couch is better for me

Get rid of the fire and add pole dancers to sand storm and 2001
That's a great idea. Now all we need is 80000 people throwing money onto the field and it's a win win for all. With 7 home games we could raise 600,000 dollars because some of your would empty your pockets.😂😂

We have the troughs. When you hang it, “hang ‘em high”.
was taking my grandsons Saturday…had my old seats back and couldn’t wait. Covid hit me Wednesday so that was that. More looking forward to seeing the grandsons at their first SC game…but not to be.

With that said, kept my tickets 30 years….. but last time I was at the stadium, as I stood at the trough urinal with the guy beside me with his pee splashing up on me, I had enough. That’s an insult to our fans to still have that setup. Old *** county high schools with no money in the boondocks don’t even have that urinal setup any longer.

So I will go back to loving the Gamecocks thru my 65” on Saturday. Maybe next year

I agree with everything mentioned except the lack of books.

Sooner or later the ESPN Fox will be coming up with packages to watch football games just like the NFL. These media rights companies are paying these schools a lot of money to broadcast their games and advertising revenue is not going to be enough to cover these costs. You will probably see this in the next year or so. So buckle up and get ready it is coming. I have a friend who is in the media rights profession and that is what I am hearing. How do you think all these schools build these stand alone football facilities, pay high salaries for coaches.
