Is anybody else completely tired of being associated with a loser university?

I’m always reminded of two quotes by someone.
The first one may be from Gene Stallings
The fun is in the winning,
The other is from I have no clue but it resonates with me and MS State athletics unfortunately and that is I hate losing more than I love winning.
If your a State fan I think you get it

I mean Walker is on X telling it like it is. Nothing good has happened in three years. It’s pretty grim, especially if your social circles extend past Noxubee Refuge. It’s gotten pretty old being a laughing stock.
Quite literally nobody in my life cares that MSU hasn't won big in major sports recently.
Perspective is wild.

MSU Athletics isn't a laughing stock to anyone outside the bubble that is hyper-focused regional college athletics success.

Perhaps a diversification of your social circles would help with perspective.

Way back in the day, the State traditional was to wear neutral clothing to away games. I didn't understand the point in that until I attended a few away games.

He works for a company that's business is sports. All his colleagues wear their colors.

I always thought it was a bold move by him to boast his allegiance so loudly in that setting but I tip my cap to him. He could have just downplayed his fandom but it would not have suited his persona.

His mistake (and mine) was not choosing Alabama way back in our youthful days in the GTR.

Go home Rebel. You only show up when in threads talking about when we lose. You ain’t fooling anyone anymore. It’s no surprise at all you pounced on this one.

As I’ve gotten older that stuff really doesn’t bother me anymore. Maybe because my priorities are kids, family, and work.

We certainly have some things that need fixing in the athletic department, but I blame a lot of our current problems on this stupid NIL / portal situation we find ourselves in. We are trying to compete in a world where we don’t have a level playing field.

Truth. And I’m still gonna watch every game I can but I’m never giving up or changing allegiances, mainly because I can’t. MSU is a part of my life. I just go with it.

I will say that the fanboy stuff, arguing with other fanbases, etc, is gone for me. Even Ole Miss. A lot of it was due to NIL/portal.

Not completely but I don't enjoy it as much. I also don't despair over losses. They don't matter as much as when I was younger. I did enjoy the Mullen and Leach years in football and those early years of baseball under Lemonis more than I enjoy those sports today. I'll still watch but I'll stop before the end of a game if the inevitable is obvious as was the case with football this year. Hell I didn't even know when State was on for much of the second half of the season because I didn't find watching to be a good use of my time. I watched the entire game yesterday because I know State can make runs in basketball games but the result didn't surprise me. I'll watch baseball because I enjoy watching baseball but I'm not sure I'm looking forward to watching several games at Alex Box this year unlike in the past. I'm not about to give to NIL, btw, so perhaps I'm not assisting in a solution to this new era.

If it becomes apparent over the next few years that the NIL era isn't reformed in a way that benefits small unis in major conferences then State should drop to Conference USA or something similar. I'd rather watch the team win and compete against similar opponents than lose any day of the week and it gives me no relief to think yeah but we're still in the SEC. SEC SEC SEC...I don't give a damn about that.

When I was a kid my parents bought football tickets, when I was a student, I went in on my student ID. When my wife and I got married right out of College almost 48 years ago we bought our own season tickets. So I have been attending our football games every year for the past 66 years. This year we did not order any tickets. It has nothing to do with how good or bad we might be and everything to do with the portal / NIL situation. We suffered through the 1960’s so if we were going to stop because we were bad, we would have stopped a long, long time ago. The term student athlete no longer applies to the vast majority of the players. The way I see it, I didn’t quit on the game, the game quit on me. This post is about football but the same thing applies to the other sports as well. We had a good run, but unless something drastic happens real quick, it is over. At least to me it is.

Do better MSU. I’ve been a devout bulldog my whole life, but you’re losing me. I’m a winner and you’re a loser.
I love Mississippi State. The experiences and education I received led me to a better life.

As I have said, the pain points those of us who graduated in the late 90s/early 00s are going to feel soon is many of our children are going to choose another route.

It's not just athletics. It's academic quality, Starkville going backwards again, and cringe social media.

I’m there. None of my girls are even considering state.
