Is this the most parity that’s been in college football in a long time?

Transferring without penalty just started a couple of years ago. NIL is part of the equation but the biggest thing is these players can transfer as much as they want whenever they want and play immediately.
I think they have equal weight.

When I have time I’ll do some research on how the top 100 freshman recruits have changed since NIL.

I scrolled the Top 100 commits on On3. There is nothing surprising on there. Pretty much all the schools you would expect with some randoms thrown in occasionally.

It's not good parity. It's a shittier product since there is less coaching and system and more plug and play.

That’s very scientific!
I agree it’s anecdotal But when it comes to HS recruits that’s where Blue Bloods/bigget schools really have huge NIL advantages. They can pay more.

The portal creates parity because it whittles away at depth when those HS kids aren’t immediately starting

You are ignoring the fact that the smus of the world can pay more too.

it only takes 10 not blue blood schools to get 10 top 100 recruits that normally would have went to top 5 schools.

thats less talent for blue bloods and more talent for non blue bloods.

Transfer portal is a big part of it.
So is NIL.

Smu definitely has money. But they are currently 30th in the on3 rankings. Not a single top 100 player right now. The current on3 top 15 is about as predictable as it gets.

The parity is from the portal.

So you think ole miss would have had the same results in the portal without NIL?

Hell no.

they both matter a lot.

I’ve now said twice OM is an exception to my premise. But even then Nolan, Paul and Princely aren’t at OM if they have to sit a year. But if you had the Portal and no NIL there would still be boatloads of transfers aiding parity. I feel strongly if you had NIL and no portal you could not say the same thing. Few boosters want to pay a bunch of money for a kid to sit a year and few kids want to sit. Not a blanket rule but a general premise.

But Vandy, Indiana, AZ State aren’t more competitive bc of NIL. And if Bama we’re traditional Saban Bama I’m not sure we would think there was a ton of parity

Clearly Saban coasted toward the end of his tenure and then voted on NIL with his feet. He couldn’t have signaled any stronger what he thought about pay for play than how he exited.
Yes, but he was for pay for play.

If you didn’t have the portal boosters would be more likely to pay kids coming out of high school.

Indiana? You sure about that? https://www.si.com/fannation/name-i...t-cignetti-to-record-breaking-football-season

He brought 13 guys from JMU. At least 7 start. Other than that their portal looks about like most schools their size. Thats a huge reason for success. They are winning bc he is a better coach than they had. They aren’t out-NIL’ing traditional powers. Not are they beating any.
But They hired a good
Coach who brought a bunch of guys that know his system

I don’t put a ton of stock into an article where an AD generically tells everyone how good he did.

Nobody says you have to out NIL the big schools. You just have to get a good ROI on your money.

NIL is important
Transfer portal is importsnt

I’m sorry you can’t see that. I bet cignrtti thinks NIL is important.

We all agree it’s important I just don’t think it’s creating parity. The portal fight for most schools is among like schools. And again I’m not sold there really is a ton of parity It’s mostly Bama being down. If Indiana played Penn state and Oregon they’d have 3 losses.

It’s definitely a big part of parity just like the portal is.
