Smalls will be going to Coastal to be a part of their PGA Management program, majoring in Business Mgmt, minor in Finance. He received the offer when he took part in the Congaree Global Golf Initiative this past summer. He is working at Congaree this Spring, around his school and golf schedule. I may end up a Coastal Golf Mom too.

We are beyond proud of him, and he is truly happy with his choice.

Havent talked to you in a while... we've had some good baseball conversations in the past at the old site where I was called bucketdad.
Great major and minor!
Great school and campus!
Congrats!

This is wonderful news, Batgirl. I am a father of three college graduates and enjoy the time in Teal country ... I worked at Coastal many years ago ... still in higher education, just not in SC any longer. Life is good - Peace!

My sister played basketball at coastal back in 88-92. I also took some classes there. We visited the campus a few years back and it's unrecognizable. It has really grown up.

I'm sure your son has his head on straight so it will be a non-issue. Need to be able to navigate around the partying / Beach trouble.

Congrats!

My daughter is graduating from Coastal in May and has really enjoyed her time there. She played golf in high school and has enjoyed the many courses there so I know he will have alot of fun.
The only real issues she had while there were housing related and some of that is who you get roomed with that can be the biggest issue but mostly had great roommates. She has majored in Sports Marketing and Business while working with the football program for the last 2 1/2 years.
She will go elsewhere for her masters but has really enjoyed Coastal for the most part.

I graduated Coastal in 98 and when I go back now for my daughter, I can barely find the old buildings I had class in because they are dwarfed by the new ones. It really has changed a whole lot. The campus looks great though.

My sister is in their hall of fame. They have a large medal poster of her outside the gymnasium. We had to ask for help to find the hall of fame and the gymnasium. Crazy that we couldn't find are way around. Hard to believe all the changes.

Fun fact- my sister is the same age as Dawn Staley. They played together at a summer camp.

Congratulations to him. In the event he plays golf at Coastal, he'll be joining Lancaster product Trey Crenshaw and Trey is a wonderful person with whom to be associated. He's a great player and grew up in our church.

We were wanting to go to the beach the week of September 2 through the ninth, would you mind asking your child if we could stay for free at Coastal with him. Tell him it’s for a fellow gamecock. The way the economy is, we were trying to save money.:giggle:

Years ago, coastal played their golf at burning ridge. I believe they bought the course years back. Don't know if they still play on this course or if they developed it. The Witch is right across the street. Nice layout. Wild wing and Legends are right down 501. Played a ton at these courses when I lived at the beach.

I went to Coastal in 84 & 85.

Bobby Richardson was our baseball coach. I’d play basketball with him and his daughter in the afternoons. Had a part time job at Trout’s liquor store in Surfside.

Good times. Oh, I’d go to class too.

Unfortunately The Witch has closed and is going to be developed for houses and such. It was a fun course and I wanted my daughter to play there but never got to. The bad part is some of the good courses are closing and the not so good remain open.
My daughter likes Hackler fine but not her favorite (Used to be Quail Creek). She says its pretty easy. She hasnt picked up a club in a couple of months and went out last week and shot a 37 on front nine. Its not the toughest course around but is good for the school.

Yes, quail creek. I was thinking burning ridge but I think they were owned by the same group in the 90's (along with Indigo Creek and some others. I only played quail creek once. Is Heckler the same layout as Q.C. or did they redesign? I remember there being a hole (maybe dogleg right) that was alongside 544.

Wish your son only the best. Coastal has really come a long way. Coastal like Charleston Southern has a history of being put on probation by the NCAA. Hope only the best for your son and he really needs to be careful with all the beautiful young ladies walking the beach. I understand being an 18 year old is truly a time of tempation in his young life. Hopefully he manages those tempations.

Only time will tell. Lots of parents raise their children the honorable way. Noone never knows what an individual does late at night especially being young and a "cougar" tempts him. We all have been there. None of us are perfect all you have to do is when you go grocery shopping look at all the young ladies walking in with child in their arms and the father is nowhere to be seen or heard from. I truly believe you have trust in your son and I truly do wish him only the best at CCU and in life.

Congratulations to you and to him.

My son is in the 10th grade, so we are just starting to tour campuses and beginning to look at colleges. I'm certainly interested in hearing about kids' college searches, choices, and experiences.

I thank you to cease questioning how I raised my son, and doubting his character.

I know you and your son probably don't know this yet but will he be attending a college in your area? There are some cool colleges in and around where you live.

My niece almost went to Montana State but she wasn't thrilled with their academics. She ended up at cal poly.

My son is in 10th also. Surprisingly, he is interested in the naval nuclear submarine program in Charleston.

Yes, it's much too early to have a "front runner" at this point, but certainly Montana and Montana State are possibilities, given the in-state tuition. Since my son will qualify for various academic scholarships, including out-of-state fee waivers at a number of state universities, we aren't limiting our search to this area. We have family scattered across the south, so we have a number of "local" schools down there as well.

It's still very early in the process and he has not developed any particular areas of academic interests, so we're just trying to gain a "feel" for the various campuses at this point. As his interests and the final tally of scholarships come into focus, his college choice will as well. This will be done without student loans, certainly for undergrad, at least, so we're taking a pretty deliberate and pragmatic approach to this process.

Sounds great! I think its great to have a parent who has been to college and knows the ropes in how to at least start a selection process.

You can’t beat going to college @ CC, especially being in Myrtle Beach. Very special place and he will make tons of memories. All that’s left to do is start growing the standard issue Coastal mullet!

Chadwell and the rest of those guys are gone so mullets will be no more. I dont think this new coach is quite the guy Chadwell was from what I am hearing. Not saying he wont be fun but dont think he is as relatable to players and other staff as Chadwell was. Coastal will miss Chadwell a whole whole lot more than they realize based on the type of person he was. Coastals loss is Libertys gain but as long as Moglia is there, Coastal will make one bad decision after another when it comes to football. He is pulling all strings behind the scenes and fails to live up to his promises off the field on a daily basis.
