Well I will say IF it is Butch, then maybe not a homerun hire but I'd say it's at least a double or even a triple. He has done ok at at Auburn. I think he would be better in here at the Dude! He knows our tradition.

One thing we need to realize about Butch... he inherited a dumpster fire in 2016 and went to the CWS in 2019 and 2022, hosted last year and had a ton of injuries.

Before we say he's meh... he's got 10 times the resume of the last baseball coach we hired.
Actually his resume is worse than the coach we just fired if you look at it.

I don’t think it will be Butch unless Selmon pulls a Cohen type thing hiring a Coach. MSU baseball is a better job than Auburn baseball. I’m hoping for O’Connell or Johnson. But I’d keep an eye on Butch mainly because he may be tried of dealing with Cohen.

He's 66 -78 in conference play in since 21. Lemonis was 62-79 in the same span. Not much of an upgrade. In 2019 Auburn finished with a sub .500 record in conference play. Their run to the CWS was getting hot at the right time kind of like Ole Miss did when they won it. In 9 years, he's only had a conference record over .500 4 times, that's including this year. In 6 years, Lemonis had 3 seasons with above .500 conference records. That's not someone I want coaching our program. We just let someone go that could meet that standard. If he's named the next coach, it would probalby indicate that several people told us no.

To @patdog 's point, it would be a lazy hire because it would be a someone Selmon would think he could sell to the MSU faithful because he's "one of us". We have to demand better with this hire than just safe and familiar.

Badass name too. Butch. Dang right.

That's all I got... it was funnier in my head and I posted it anyway. Funny how bourbon will do that.

I think I would take Cohen back. Not my first call but we could do a lot worse.
I know there are a lot of people who don’t share that opinion and he may have thoroughly torched that bridge on his way out.

a certain SEC HC wouldn't mind coming back home to coach.
People dissing Butch are simply foolish. He's a heck'uva good coach and has had success at a school that traditionally hasn't put much emphasis on the sport. Plus, his Mother lives by herself and is getting older so I could easily see why he'd like to get back closer to home.

I agree, he may not be my first choice but he would not set us back. He is pretty well respected by the players and does a good job recruiting. I'm not sure why some dislike or think he would be a "set-back" Can't blame him for wanting to be closer to home.
I'm good for Wes Johnson also, he got lots of hate as our assistant but has proven he is ok as HC in his first two season.

How many coaches with losing conference records who didn’t coach at Mississippi State do you want us to hire? Then why are you ok with these two? That’s typical small minded Mississippi State thinking that has held us back for 80 years.

First off pat, Butch isn’t my first choice, I think if Wes Johnson is interested I would be ok Either way him. Second, where Do you get our baseball program is set back by “small minded fans/graduates like myself. Auburn btw doesn’t have near the tradition we have and I say Butch is better than Lemonis. Lemonis was gifted and Butch has had to rebuild plus he has a chance of being in CWS for third time. I will hang up and listen.
