Yes - I am going to call out every single poster that said he would not get the call. So I advise you to eat crow on your own before I make you!
He hasn’t made the big leagues yet. You do understand that right?

he’s on the 40 man. Only 27 make the roster. This just makes him eligible to be one of the 27.

the main thing this did was keep him from being lost in the rule 5 draft…. However again this is a huge first step to actually making the bigs

Correct. All correct. He'll probably start in AAA next year but being on the 40 man roster is a huge hurdle that he cleared in being called up next year

He has not gotten the call yet FWIW. Likely coming in late April next year though

Yes. Got to hope the rays don’t make any spring training or off season moves. But even then removing him from the 40 man means all the mlb teams will have a chance to sign him.

good step for sure.

The rays just traded their starting CF Jose Siri for a relief pitcher from the Mets. That's huge for his potential to make the 27 man

Great! So he gets to play half a season at Steinbrenner instead of the Trop.

He will probably end up going between the MLB roster and triple A several times next year. Like someone else posted, this protects him in the rule 5 draft, which goes to show you the rays have plans for him and thought other teams would as well.

they probably did it so the Sixpack poster on twitter will stop tagging them every day...."i will repost this everyday until the rays call up jake magnum"

and not sure who you are, but well done. I see it every day.

Does this get him more $$$ right now?
No. No players get paid in the offseason. Which again is why the moves get made today. Costs the organization’s nothing

they also don’t get paid normal salaries in spring training. Which is why him making the 40 man out of the spring is the big landmark for him

Agree. Though right now if paying attention you are seeing a lot of people get put on the 40 man for this reason alone.

by the same token in spring training you see a lot of people get removed from the 40 man.

this move is made now for all the teams because it costs them nothing. It basically assures them they don’t lose players. If plans change or what not they’ll simple remove them during the spring training process… and it would be the exact same as exposing them to the rule 5 draft.

Basically all this does is make them make the decision on these type players 4 months from now… not today… which is why you are seeing a tons of roster transactions all over mlb today

I don't watch MLB baseball, but I like to see good things happen to good people. Jake seems like a more than deserving guy and I'm proud he keeps trying to make it to the big leagues. Here's to a great bulldog!

He had a great spring last year and maintained it throughout the season. If he has the same start he might force them to keep him. I watched way too much crappy hitting last year.
