As a USM guy, I say in all seriousness that we (and probably most G5 schools) should do away with football and focus on basketball and baseball. At least with baseball, at USM and a number of G5 schools, there is a passionate fan base that, through NIL, could continue to field very competitive squads. That would be a source of pride at a lot of institutions.

The old adage that “football pays the bills” will quickly become obsolete at almost all G5 schools, and even some P4 schools.

No salary cap without a collective bargaining agreement. And no reason the players would agree to one when schools will just keep paying them more without a cap.
