Judge rules in favor of House vs NCAA. Revenue sharing on the way.

As a USM guy, I say in all seriousness that we (and probably most G5 schools) should do away with football and focus on basketball and baseball. At least with baseball, at USM and a number of G5 schools, there is a passionate fan base that, through NIL, could continue to field very competitive squads. That would be a source of pride at a lot of institutions.

The old adage that “football pays the bills” will quickly become obsolete at almost all G5 schools, and even some P4 schools.

Beginning of college salary cap imo
No salary cap without a collective bargaining agreement. And no reason the players would agree to one when schools will just keep paying them more without a cap.

Capitalism gonna kick in soon. Only a handful of programs will be able to afford all of this. Tv money helped programs like us but now it's gonna go to players which no saying it shouldn't, but the market is going to reset itself on buildings, programs, etc. the slice of pie is getting smaller
Correct. I have no idea why people think this is good.

Well one piece of good news, in the original settlement, it said the NIL is to be true NIL. No pay for play and the ncaa can enforce that rule. We shall see if that happens. But ncaa rules around nil is a part of the settlement.

The preliminary approval also opens the door for the creation of a third-party body to vet NIL payments greater than $600. A revised version of the settlement filed on Sept. 26 referred to “faux” NIL deals — payments that are functionally “pay-for-play” deals being procured under the guise of NIL.

Wilken voiced particular concern over the restricting of what athletes could earn, while representatives for NIL collectives across the country have been adamantly against the proposal that would limit their involvement and create more oversight on certain deals.

In an effort to assuage those concerns, the revised settlement exempted anyone who's given less than $50,000 to a school from the aforementioned NIL enforcement rules, along with removing the word “booster” and replacing it with “Associated Entity or Individual."

“... On balance, permitting [the] Defendants to retain some existing rules that prohibit affiliated parties from providing faux NIL payments that are not actual commercial transactions is a fair exchange for the tremendous benefits the settlement provides,” the brief said.
After this happens, we need to exit the football NIL space. Hire a niche coach, recruit guys that need football, and pay them out of the 22M revenue share....period.

Use NIL and collectives for basketball and baseball and other non-revenue sports. I actually think many of our fans could get behind this.

Any semblance of what college sports was is about to be completely gone. Just wild stuff.
With it my fandom or what I used to care at least for investment has gone down. Do I enjoy a good game? Yep. But my give damn has quickly gone down to where I will just change the channel or turn the tv off and go outside. Team like Indiana seem to be getting after it though with limited revenue and nil. No reason we can't either with the right staff. I think nil is just being used as an excuse right now for sloppy play and coaching and administration. If schools with similar nil or less can do better we can too

If you followed the jmu/Indiana or Vandy/nmsu model, the Texas state staff and players would have worked here as well. I think more teams will be doing this going forward. You get momentum and you have experienced people in charge.

Maybe I was really nervous about how long Kinne had been coaching. Doing a great job. But he at least had been a head coach. First time head coaches just have a lot to learn unless you were like Mullen and under the same guy for a long time
