I’m sure there will be fans on here that blame the fanbase in some way or another.
Like it or not - The Ky Brand has been tarnished. The reason is complex & multifaceted. Players love that BBN shows up at away games & support them, but the flip side is the weight of the constant pressure to win it all & the criticism from all sides of the fanbase about every mistake. This year the stories of JJ & Jelly especially epitomized the situation.
JJ a local legacy was run out of town & Jelly a potential NBA player from Europe will be shining examples of why players are shunning UK . OREGON & Ohio State are the benefactors of Ky’s deficiencies. With social media communications & the 24 hr news cycle the reputation of BBN is Toxic - We ran off 2 Hall of Fame coaches. Now the natives are beating the war drums & demanding the firing of another coach who won 46 games including 3 NCAA Tournament wins in his first 2 years. No top line coach is going to want to subject their family &future to the gauntlet of running UK HOOPS in the near term.
Every thread turns into a “bash Pope” marathon.
BBN - BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR.

The last Hall of Fame coach had worse results than Pope. And that was with rosters stacked with 5 star NBA draft picks.

Let me ask you something...do you think it helps our image when any of the trolls who frequent this board can steer potential recruits here to see just how badly Pope is destroyed here on a daily basis? I know, blame it on the fans, but does anyone in their right mind think this doesn't hurt us getting recruits as well

Duke, KU, UL, UT, Florida, UConn….all top teams or rivals are loaded and getting a ton of players.

Meanwhile Pope continues to crap down his leg.
Mark pope wears magic underwear so it might not go down his leg. His cult makes him wear magic underwear

TN will be good, but I feel like a lot of people are way overhyping their roster. Gillespie is better than Ames, Okpara and Carey are better than their current rotation at the 5, their SG’s are improved but Lundblade doesn’t play defense, Terrence Hill is an upgrade, Ament IMO is irreplaceable with anyone in this portal. Haralson can’t shoot and really only drives to the basket. It’s a good roster, but to replace who they lost is a challenge in and of itself that I don’t think a lot of people are recognizing.

Don’t forget Kansas

Kansas did get Stokes, but their team looks really weak. UNC and KU are probably right there with us outside of the top 25 at the moment. Both only have 7-8 players on the rosters at the moment too. I still think KU will beat us in the Champions Classic next year just to rub more salt in the wound as the season starts.

But but, the coaching experts told me that Pope is whiffing because of personality shortcomings, meanwhile, Mr. Wet Blanket personality himself, is loading up to contend with the best of the best next season!

Folks, take your head out of the sand… The boosters gave Stein the “Stokes money”, and told Pope, “Here’s some crumbs for mid majors and washed up Euro bums.”

UK has a men’s basketball NIL problem, not a dorky nerd coach problem. How much more do you need to see?
You may be right, but Pope is certainly part of the problem. He couldn't land the top choices even when the $$ were available (and this dates back to the previous offseason). He's the common denominator here. It may not be the "weirdness" by itself, but but having any NBA rep to speak of is his biggest issue IMO. He can't sell professional development opportunities to elite prospects.

Another poster mentioned Young at BYU -- guy is a Mormon too. But he has an NBA background and can call up guys like Durant.

But I also don't disagree that the money is drying up. Boosters aren't going to entrust a budget to Pope anymore.

At this rate, our rivals will be "our Super Bowl."

Yep. If anyone plans on going to Nashville in March, better make sure your reservations include that opening Wednesday.

Good news, if there is any, is you'll probably save alot of money, because you can probably easily do Wednesday to Friday.
