it seems like now he was starting to get some people in his corner.

I think the admin was looking for a reason to dump him and this was it.

Nutt to TT?

The James kid is a whiny little ***** and had it been a lesser known kid this NEVER would've happened.........As I said earlier, 20 years ago this wouldn't have even been discussed, AT ALL........

to get an injunction to allow him to coach the bowl game helped his cause. I'm sure we will see a nice lawsuit from him on the firing though. Especially if TT fails to pay him the $800k bonus.

and look at the support from both players and coaches more familiar with the situation, and then to shitcan him over this, without due process, is a crock. They're done.

Texas Tech doesn't need a reason to fire him. They could come right out and say they're firing him to save the $800K bonus and the James allegations didn't have anything to do with it and there'd be nothing Leach could do about it.

Actually they will need a reason, if he's fired for cause then they don't have to pay out his contract, and the cause cannot be that they didn't want to pay him.

At least this is what I've heard the talking heads say.

Also, Leach, himself is an attorney so I'd imagine he has a pretty good idea of what kind of outcome to expect.

And I did find out after my post that they are claiming they're firing him for cause and don't owe him anything. They'll ultimately lose on paying the buy-out. But if the bonus clause is the "$800K if he's employed through 12/31/09" like has been reported, they won't have to pay that.

because although TT has had some success over the last 10 years, they are still not considered a high profile program. I doubt they will be able to snag a 'high profile' coach from another school. Probably a coordinator or previously fired hc.

With all the type players they have there, I'm thinking Sumlin would be their best bet.

that TT ain't interested. They're going after June Jones, and if he says no, they'll pursue Malzahn.

this issue is more about a) an issue between Gerald Myers and Mike Leach and b) fear that ESPN will ruin the TT image because of the Craig James connection. TT has established in the past that they are okay with "questionable" or "aggressive" player treatment by coaches when they hired Bob Knight - the poster child for aggressive handling of players. This has nothing to do with the mistreatment of poor little Adam James - it's just a means to an end for Myers.

Here's an old article where Myers came quickly to the rescue of Knight. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/15708145/

Now, I'm not trying to get a shot in at Bob Knight. I like the guy and think he was one of the great collegiate coaches of all-time. But, how can an AD let all of Knight's **** slide and the FIRST TIME (to my knowledge, feel free to correct) that Leach does something questionable to a player, he fires his ***.

This doesn't pass the smell test. There has to be more to the firing than this incident. Leach is getting screwed over or there's more information being withheld - which I doubt since so many people are publicly defending Leach and questioning the character of Craig James.

There were probably better CYA options of handling a dipshit like Craig James. It's certainly questionable or unorthodox punishment. But, unless James was being physically abused or restrained against his free will, there's no way TTech can justify the firing in my opinion.. Reprimand or fine him, that's fine. But, firing is taking it way too far.
