We'll start with Cael here at 1:45 p.m. and then move on to some wrestlers. I will keep this as updated as I can, but also doing photos and video so may miss some things.

Cael is loving the unseasonably warm weather and is thrilled about the offseason the program has had. He said Levi Haines is a guy they don't have to worry about and that it's "hard to say right now" whether or not Haines will redshirt or not. "We have some options and we'll patiently let things play out.

Remember that true freshmen can wrestle five times this year and still redshirt. Key rule change. Could impact Haines, of course.

Interesting. Will Betancourt is no longer with the Penn State program. News to me, so if I missed that earlier this year, my apologies.

On the middle weights: Not many surprises. They had intrasquad matches and the guys have looked good. He said they're "looking solid" while not addressing anyone specifically.

On guys who have the COVID year to use: It's hard. Guys have to decide if they want to do it, but it's hard to walk away. Communication is key, and it affects recruiting.

On Bartlett now being listed at 141 as expected: The experience he got at 149 is great. He's going 41. That's a more natural weight for him. He had to work hard to keep his weight up. He was competitive there but feels more comfortable at 41. Experience is great, and with him, he just has to be himself and go score points.

On RBY: He's here and in school and planning on matches. Probably won't wrestle every match. Right now, the plan is to wrestle a handful of matches.

On the guys competing in the NLWC All-Star classic: Flo got behind it and did a really nice job making it interesting to the kids and student athletes. Looks like it will be a great event. Starocci, Brooks, and Kerkvliet will compete.

Nagging injuries kept Van Ness off the mat last year. He's healthy and excited to go. Facundo got a lot of opportunities and is improving as well.

On getting RBY back: We're excited. Everyone in college wrestling is excited. He's improved every year and has improved even over the last year.

On losing Nick Lee: He did an outstanding job while he was here. Two-time NCAA champion and five-time All-American. He's still in the NLWC.

On two BJC matches: I think they're both exciting matches. I think every match is exciting. If we were wrestling this weekend or regardless, we're consistent as a coaching staff. We don't get too high or too low. We haven't thought too much about them. We're excited to see our guys compete and where we're at.

He just gave a big shoutout to Pat Kraft. Said PSU is blessed to have him here. Obviously he's made a big impact on NIL. And that Penn State wrestling is competing in that space and all others.

On his overall conversations with Kraft: We're blessed to have him. He's very unique in his approach and we see things very similarly and it makes my job a lot easier. He's competing and we're competing.

If I recall Steen was a pretty solid recruit. Didn't follow him too much in his redshirt year last year, but excited to see how he goes!

I see roster is finally posted on PSU website. For those in the know, any surprises (not mentioned in press conference)? If Haines is redshirted, who will start at 149, 157? Thanks. So glad Cael had positive comments about AD Kraft. I think NIL is especially important in wrestling which is a very high profile sport but NOT all scholarships are full ones (only 9,9 for team) unlike football and basketball so you would think NIL could make up gap. I know with Success with Honor NIL several have chosen to direct money to wrestling.

Edit: Van Ness at '49 regardless; Barraclough or Joe Lee at '57 with a Haines redshirt

thanks jbelingi-i should have known Van Ness is at 149, We sure have younger wrestlers at 149, 157 (if Haines wrestles this season), and 165 who were extremely successful in the prep ranks and very highly rated. Hopefully the younger wrestlers do well and get better and better-thus a roster of younger wrestlers with 4 returning champs and a stud at heavyweight!

I saw the other day that Betancourt responded to the Wisc?? Wrestler who wasn't being released by Nebraska so he couldn't get a waiver for this year. He said he was going through the same thing. So would OSU not release him to us? Or are we the ones not releasing him now?

I look forward to seeing the Roster updated every year. Not to just see the names on the team, but to also confirm that Cael and Casey never update their pictures.

It looks like Joe Lee is only listed at 165lbs on the new PSU roster so I am not sure he is an option at 157lbs. I'd say it's Barraclaugh/Levi Haines or Matt Lee who is also listed at 157lbs.

It also looks like we are going to get a healthy dose of Baylor Shunk at 133lbs this year. With the rumor that RBY is going to limit his matches there are only two other guys listed at 133lbs and Baylor Shunk is the only one with any starting experience.

Good catch on the roster weight. I’m not sure that’s gospel but maybe Joe Lee is finally too big for 57 (people swore that was the case when Berge was struggling with concussion issues) or thinks he’s better off competing with Facundo for the spot.

Im curious if Dave Evans can make 133 and how he matches up with Shunk. Evans had a nice run his senior year of high school at 126. Shunk has been fun to watch in spot starts though so I’d be happy to see more of him
