in 2nd and 3rd down with over 15 yds to go, we have had a tendency to give up yards to a run. That would be either QB or RB getting close to a 1sr down or getting it. this has happened in several games, and not just this one. There must be some reason for this in our DEF style or players. today one of these kept a scoring drive alive for IU, but it has happened many other times.

I think some of this has to do with lack of discipline. There is a lot of loss of contain by the edge defenders and blitzers. Guys are not sticking with their assignments and responsibilities. And subpar tackling skills don’t help either.

I agree 100% with the poor tackling technique. Guys don’t break down and just square up and tackle somebody by wrapping up. They either go for a big hit or try to shoulder somebody to knock them down and end up leading guys get extra yards.

Those blown coverage will be even more costly against Maryland and especially Michigan. We will be at the Maryland game next week. Looking ahead. Very concerned about the offense and defensive let down today. The team should be improving as the season progresses, not regressing.
Cannot disagree but they played hungover and got lucky.

Which is probably why Isaac yelled at the defenders to do your job after the 2nd long TD which was as easy as it gets and as bad defense as you will see. Please explain to me why Diaz ran a corner blitz on 1st down on that play b

I didn’t think the offense “let down” today. The offense bailed the defense, which made 2 horrific pee wee football mistakes, out today.

Based on how wide open that Indiana WR was, it's possible he didn't 🤣

It isn't just 2023. Lack of situational football awareness and discipline. It seems that most every player on Franklin's teams wants to be an ESPN highlight star.

I had no issue with the corner blitz. But there was a mixup in communication between Winston and Reed as to who was going to cover for Dixon's blitz. Winston probably should have been the guy but he started toward the pass rush and Reed was caught flat-footed. Isaac yelling at them to 'do their job' would make sense in this situation as guys didn't talk.

The D as a whole was very blah today. Didn't get their normal pressure, the linebackers were invisible (seriously, does anyone remember Carter or Jacobs doing ANYTHING today?), and the corners were playing pretty soft. Kalen King looked like he was just going thru the motions at times.

Bingo. Both long TD passes by Indiana were due to poor communication. The whole team went through the motions. They were still hungover from last week. Let’s hope they got that out of their system.

The last drive on offense felt more urgent. I think the players realized they had to win to keep their season alive.

I hope that urgency carries forward.

Complete brain fart by Manny or missed call by CB?
CB did his part, blitzing as designed. Inside safety was likely supposed to rotate out, and for some reason first moved toward the LOS (maybe bit on play action?). That then left the WR wide open and Reed lost the race as the deep guy.
