Luigi Mangione. For being UPenn educated, he's not very intelligent. He should have ditched the gun in any murky water body between NYC and Altoona.

Love this Country:

The People: "Healthcare sucks, let's kill everyone associated with it who profits off of steeling from us and not giving us what we paid for whereby we die and suffer! Bring out the guillotines and strike fear in their hearts! Make this killer a hero!"

Reason and Logic: "what if, through the will of the people, we, collectively, got rid of health insurance/the current system and made healthcare a joint venture between all of the citizens of the country and the governmental institutions they elect; together we set up a system so that it enables more people to have access to healthcare and reduces the likelihood of a for profit business denying you purely out of greed/profit? We could call it pre-Medicare."

The People: "No! Leave it the way it is! Leave it the way it is! Leave it the way it is!"

That's assuming that faceless government bureaucrats/bean counters will be better than faceless insurance company bureaucrats/bean counters.

Keep in mind insurance companies sell insurance not health care. They only make money by not paying for health care. Insurance was invented to hedge against loss of ocean going vessels way back, it is premised on "rare events". Problem with insurance for health care is everyone will require health care at some point, which makes it a poor bet as its not a 1 in 10 or 100 event but a 1 in 1 event.

Committing the crime calls his intelligence into question. In no way did he have a chance to get away with that. It’s almost like he saw himself as a martyr of sorts.

Well the guy admired the paranoid schizophrenic Ted Kaczynski aka the Unabomber and his manifesto. Apparently he is an anti-capitalist and has his own 3 page manifesto. I am beginning to wonder if he has some sort of mental issues as well. Didn’t seem like he was making it hard to find and catch him.

He also appears to be quite intelligent having graduated from Penn with a master’s degree in computer science in 4 years. Kaczynski was a brilliant mathematician. Some smart people seem to operate on the edge of crazy.

His family has a ton of money too. Own a couple country clubs and senior care centers around Baltimore. Born with proverbial silver spoon in his mouth. Will be very interesting to see what in that manifesto made him do this. Insurance companies and health care companies are what basically made his family millionaires.

There was a UPenn/Penn State reference last night in Yellowstone episode.
It actually referenced the football team.

Beth was characterizing a guy hitting on her as someone that went to Penn State because of the football team, intimating that it wouldn't be an Ivy League school for him.

Social media finding he may have had some kind of surgery on his back, maybe got into pain meds, etc.

Defended the ultimate Michigan Man Ted K in his writings. Hmm… Sounds like the kid is wicked smart and unfortunately murderously bitter.

I hate to tell you, that scenario is already big business for other countries and for the US. Many, many people go out of the country for heath care, drugs, and procedures. Cruise lines have passengers who go on semi monthly drug cruises to buy prescriptions. Cheaper to pay for the cruise and the drugs than to get it in the US. Especially if it isn’t covered or the deductible is insane. Dental services are a huge business in Europe and central and South America. I know it’s slightly different as it is elective most of the time, but plastic surgery vacations are a very real thing. The sad part is that is what the people with some or a lot of money do. The poors just have to forgo care entirely until they hit Medicare.

“The poors just have to forego care entirely until they hit Medicare.” This is true. My dentist would tell me that he’d work at a free weekend clinic with other dentists and the line would be around the block. I read this the other day, can’t swear to the specifics: One-third of cancer patients in the United States go bankrupt within a year. I got no solutions.

Anyone on this board ever eaten at that McDonald's?
I'm not sure which Altoona McDonald's location this was. There is one near the PSU Altoona campus, one near the Train Station, and one near the mall.

Edit: It is the one on Plank Road (closest to the mall). I've been there.

I mean, there is a solution - most of the world has figured it out. Same for education. It’s just Americans do not have the appetite for it.
