Looks like the ACC is nearing a tipping point

No bailouts, please, for any of the ACC teams, especially Clemson. We have the advantage of being the closest SEC team to the north of us. Also, none of those ACC schools treated us well when we dropped out, if I remember correctly. The weaker, and the poorer, those teams are the better it will be for us.

First of all, why would the SEC consider US in its expansion decisions? Who are WE to be considered? We are here now by a miracle of circumstances that had nothing to do with our desirability.

Why did you even mention "bailouts"? Bailouts from where? Who is talking about bailouts? These aren't banks; they aren't GM or Chrysler, either.

If by "bailouts" you mean bringing certain teams into the league, Sankey or his successor will only bring in teams that somehow strengthen the league. He won't be running it by us, either. If he decides to invite UPC, what are we going to do? Pull out? :ROFLMAO:

I agree. We have no leverage. I'm not even sure that Florida could keep Florida State out. And if clemson was to be invited, I am pretty sure that FSU would be as well, as they are more attractive than clemson based on potential, bigger state and being in the state capitol.

I think expansion beyond 16 is undesirable, but it doesn't matter what you and I think. This is going to be a war of territorial conquest. Everyone is looking for added value in future TV negotiations. There will come a limit, but 16 ain't gonna be it.
Rather than conferences merge or poach, I would rather see them collaborate on TV deals. Eight league members are ideal IMO. You get to play every conference member in every sport every season with enough room on your schedules for many good OOC contests.

Ideal, but sadly, not realistic.:(

We acted like immature brats on our way out the door in 1971. We had agreed to go along with the 800 SAT score regulation (voting for it in 1964), and then under Dietzel, pushed hard (too hard) to change it.

If it was up to McGuire, we would have never left the ACC.

Any time a school leaves an athletic conference there are going to be some hard feelings. I think our 1971 departure was one of, if not the hardest.

I admit, I will laugh pretty hard on the day when the sec and b10 swallow just about all of the top level of college football, and then begin discussing breaking the mega conferences into 8 team "pods" or sections, and we end up with something close to what we had decades ago, but with playoffs.

The weaker ones will be reduced to that - conceivably. The big dogs are gonna eat. This is still America, Partner.

No leverage at all. We are lucky to be parasitic with respect to the SEC.

A bit fuzzy, but I believe you are correct. I think that was part of the motivation behind Nebraska, A&M and Mizzou bolting.
Colorado too? Longhorns were the bully in that league. I'll bet some of the non-Texas remnants still around have regretted for years merging the Big 8 with the SWC remnants.

I strongly believe in equal revenue sharing. For Alabama, all the monies they earn at the dance should be split up into 16 shares. Each school gets 1 share, the SEC office gets a share, and Bama gets a second share since they did the dancing.. Or something like that.

The big deal was the Longhorn Network. It tilted the table so that the marbles rolled toward Texas. That ain't happening come '24 - ever.

Longhorn Network is a great example of Texas the bully.
