practically every year, the board has a lot of complaints, and some compliments, about that year's Super Bowl halftime show. And those usually also include thoughts on prior halftime shows at the Super Bowl.

Please use this thread for discussion of Rihanna's halftime show at the LVII Super Bowl. I'm trying to keep that discussion out of the Super Bowl game thread.

Whatever happened to the good old halftime shows of the early days?? All we had back then was a kazoo and a tree branch with some white knickers tied on them. Let me tell ya'll somethin', you can get pretty heated up watching someone waving their white knickers around on a stick while playing "Here we go Steelers"......

I don’t get it.
I don't like it
The NFL has forgotten it’s “core” audience.
Bring the guy who sang the national anthem back
What we they wearing?!?
Does anyone play a musical instrument anymore?
Is this considered dancing?

I haven't a clue what these outfits represent.

And I know Rhianna usually has some dancers in her performances, but they do nothing for me. I focus on the music.

I really try to be open-minded to different genres of music, but, I'm sorry, she sounds like she is singing the same song over and over again. I am sure they are different songs, but it sure sounds like the same exact one, using the same electronic beat and auto-tuned voice samples.

Very well choreographed but way too much clothing to appreciate the athleticism of the dance

and the music is blah at best

5 out of 10

Interesting. I like Rihanna, but I won't remember that as one of her better performances. Or as one of the better Super Bowl halftime shows.

I like her too, but I wish they would have focused on her singing and not have all the dancers all over the place. Why make her talent an after thought?

I am a professional musician. I play in classical, jazz and pop bands. The music that is being produced these days is simplistic and easy to write and perform. It doesn't take much talent beyond high school level. Fairly basic stuff.

Granted it is probably categorized as R & B but imho it is essentially "pop". For whatever reason, have never liked "pop" anything. 🤷‍♂️

Agreed that there wasn't anything about the performance itself making it memorable one way or the other. Just seemed to be "going through the motions"? 🤷‍♂️

Of course most of the annual halftime discussion is just dependent upon what type of music each viewer happens to like. For example, this doesn't happen to be a preferred type of music, but did grow up listening to a wide variety of music, some of which was Dr. Dre, so enjoyed last year's show just because of liking the music since childhood, despite the vociferous criticisms by others LOL.

My IQ dropped in half watching that. Made me think, maybe, that’s what a dog in heat might experience.

I liked her signing. Always have. She had a child recently, though not sure how long ago. She could be pregnant again though. 🤷‍♂️

The floating stages were cool. The choreography would have been much better and easier to appreciate if they would have had less bulky attire.
