As far as I can tell, there is only one player in the tournament this year. I'm not sure that is going to make for much drama.

Sage Steele of ESPN who normally puts herself together pretty well, looks like Little Orphan Annie today.

It is only the biggest sports story of the past few years. But you're probably correct. Folks want to see more of Taylor Gooch's round today.
Opinions vary, I suppose. I'd rather see the actual event than to follow whatever "story" ESPN happens to be selling at the time.

You can't win it on Thursday, but you can lose it. It looks like DeChambeau may be on the verge of doing that.

Damn right. That should be the story. Holy hell. How do you worry about golf when that is waiting for you. Unless of course she says, if you win you get this. If you don’t. See ya.

I especially like the green trim. Very traditional. 👍

I can’t believe she didn’t make and present him with a pimento cheese sammy.

Golf wives are so worthless.

On the news this morning, they mentioned that Tiger had problems bending down to check his putz. Is that significant?

Question for you golf experts. What does it mean when they say a golfer is a "terrific ball striker"? A simplistic view might say that best golfers are best ball strikers, but then it wouldn't seem like meaningful commentary. Does it mean who hits the ball the hardest, or who hits the ball more accurately, or who is most consistant? Does it apply to the overall hitting the ball as opposed to decision making?

Overall hitting…whereas other guys might have better short games, or be better putters

The thing about Tiger - he is the perfect athlete for media to focus on.

When he is good (at golf or life), the media builds him up like a deity.
When he is bad (at golf or life), the media tears him down like he is Satan himself.

Right now, he is on an upswing, so everything he does is glorified.
Soon enough, he will do something that will push the media to start tearing him down.

I play lots of golf, watch lots of golf, and I never understood what that means.

I have never been a fan of sports hero worship. In the team sports, it lessens the importance of team= not a good thing.
In individual sports like golf, I find it sycophantic and talks to the importance of affiliation in our lives.
Sickening.

This level of worship I’ve only seen with golf and more specifically Woods. He’s garbage.

- Zach Johnson (+5)
- Jordan Spieth (+6)
- Brooks Koepka (+6)
- Xander Schauffele (+7)

Have to dvr coverage as they are just salivating over tiger. Heck watching today and they just showed him completing 15 teeing off 16 and then, in case you missed it, let’s go back and watch every swing from tiger from 1-15. Lol.
Bathroom break!!!
Man just nauseating.

Not an "expert", but ball striking would seem to mean consistent contact with the sweat spot of the club face, which would lead to more consistent ball flight from each shot.

But with club selection, aim/alignment to the hole, ability to focus and remain level headed in the face of adversity, adjustment for wind and elevation, along with the touch required for a great short game and putting, the best ball strikers are not necessarily the best scorers.......

Think of it as a combo of hitting fairways and greens in regulation. Consistently playing form tee to green to put yourself in contention for eagles/birdies.

Lowry said it best on his approach to 15. Just a terrible shot. He left himself 25 feet above the hole. So you want to be in a good place on the green and not at opposite end of green. I played the other day and if pin was before or after a hump on the green I was opposite. I had 8 3 putts. Just stupid and poor approach shots and I didn’t get any bounces because I didn’t deserve them.

So people should be rooting for a guy that has driven impaired multiple times, almost killed himself, and is lucky not to have killed others??

Not to mention his other transgressions.
Lot of jock sniffers on this board that never played sports at any level of consequence

On one camera shot through the pines with the green and flag in the background, the close up of two massive pines at the edge of the fairway revealed what looked like woven copper wire that you’d see on a lightning rod. Surely they can’t have lightning rods on every tree? Is it just on prominent trees? Anyone else notice this or know any history?
