Ignoring Russo from Mad Dog, who thinks BIG is weak and not deserving of any more than one team. He really does not like Penn State.

However the other types are talking about the "2 loss teams" who get in or left out totally. The view of tOSU is that that if they lose to Indiana or UMich are going to be "at risk of the home game", but in the playoff. On the other hand Indiana seen as out if 2 losses and some risk with 1 loss, and Penn State on the "bubble" with 2 losses. There are likely going to be a long list of 2 loss teams fighting for at large bids. Rick N was suggesting possibly 5 SEC teams, which means 2 or 3 max for BIG.

It would pretty much be impossible at this point for the Big Ten to only get 2 teams in...even 3 teams would take a shocking update of Indiana by Purdue, or us somehow losing two more game. 4 seems very safe.

Too many media types and selection folks really do hate Penn State.
Nothing new, really, although now it seems to be an anti-B1G bias with ESPN controlling the CFP and thus promoting the SEC teams. ESPN would love nothing more than to have SEC vs SEC in the championship game.

The question is whether the CFP committee does their own thinking or lets ESPN and/or the media influence them.

Traditionally the playoff committees, (whatever their official titles over the years), have aligned very closely with the AP and Coach’s polls. They are pretty heavily influenced by the media.

Tough year for top 11 teams to have only 2 losses. So psu wins out they are 5-6 guaranteed. Indiana loses they are bubble same with osu if osu loses. Always some upsets those as it is chaos month. Let’s see what happens.

There are going to be a lot of 2 loss teams fighting for spots.

Finebaum and ESPN are starting their preemptive strike to get more SEC teams in. In past years the SEC had dominant Bama and Georgia teams. Not so much this year. Both of them (along with Texas A&M and Ole Miss) already have 2 losses and are on the bubble.

That only leaves Texas and Tennessee with 1 loss from the SEC. The Vols play Georgia Saturday. By Sunday Georgia will be eliminated or Tennessee will join the rest of the SEC with 2 losses.

That leaves the potential of Texas as their only 1 loss team but they have a game with A&M yet.

The real fight will be espn and Finebaum arguing that a 3 loss SEC team (loser of the SEC title game) should also be invited and not penalized for playing in a championship game.

Given that the SEC only plays 8 conference games, I have no sympathy for their slew of 2-loss teams. And a 3-loss SEC team has absolutely no business being near the playoff.

Let all the a-holes talk. PSU keeps winning, they'll be fine. But a 2nd loss will put them precariously on the edge because the resume isn't all that special. Yes, you can only play what's on your schedule but if there's only one strong team on that schedule, you'd better only lose to them. Texas could and should have the same problem. Hell, SMU has a better resume than them and might be better than PSU's right now. But win out and finish 11-1 and we're hosting and let the haters hate.

The fact that idiots like Finebaum and Dinich have a prominent voice in this sport is a travesty. But that's the ESPN propaganda machine for you. There's money to be made so screw fair & impartial reporting.

What if $$$ loses to Indiana next week?
Indiana would move ahead of PSU.

I haven’t seen all that much chatter about Indiana’s chances of pulling an upset over OSU. I’d be pretty shocked if this did happen, myself.

Look ahead lines have Ohio St -11.5 over Indiana. We’re -10 over Minnesota.

One really surprised me…Arizona St -1 against BYU.

Huh. From time to time I fantasize about betting on sports and then I read something like this, brings me back to earth. Thanks for the PSA.

Two options here:

1. The winner of the playoffs has to then play the SEC champion for the real championship (sarcasm).
2. The rules will change next year so that conferences get guaranteed allotments in the playoffs based on conference strength of schedule or some other made up number.

PSU absolutely has to win out if it wants to be in the playoffs. That's why the Washington game was such a big deal, in the past that team was out of the 4 team playoff and would have already started to have guys coast or prepare for opting out of the bowl game. Now they still have something to play for and it looks like they care, based on their Washington performance.

Just out of curiosity, what would you have thought about the OSU vs Indiana line? I have it at OSU-13.
I was hoping for 14+ to bet IU. Will probably lay off, or even consider OSU at -11 (if it dips). I'm not a big fan of big public underdogs.

The OSU line didn’t faze me. It was the PSU-Minnesota line that threw me. From reading this board I would have thought it’d be PSU at -3 or -5 max.

If PSU has 2 losses given the remaining schedule, they don't belong anywhere near the playoff.

Haha! Never trust biased fans to give an impartial analysis.
The transitive property doesn't work for actual game results, but it gets pretty close for spreads.
Example
Minny -3 at Illinois, or about -5 to on a neutral (2 pt HFA)
PSU -19 vs Illy, or -16 on a neutral (3pt HFA)

PSU -11 vs Minny on a neutral, or -9 at Minny (~2pt HFA).

What I love about IU, their coach, their staff, their QB, their defense - is that they give zero ****s what anyone else thinks. They just go about their business.

I'll look hard at the IU money line next week.

You’ve been riding the IU wave a good long while.

You shouldn’t mouth off too much til you have a second after Indy gets boat raced by OSU to hat in hand. Laying low is your play
One of your piercings get infected or something? Do I consider IU better than OSU? Of course not. One is undefeated, the other is not. Thus my "rankings" rant. Let it sort out.
