some think we don't belong in playoffs at all, while others disagree with where we got seeded (#4 or #6 in brackets). Many still don't seem to realize that the committee set the seeds/ranks and not the bracket structure which was setup by the playoff leadership. The committee has explained multiple times that they only did ranking and not matchups.

there is a view that somehow we have an easy path and don't deserve it. Our baseline is winning the next two games with anything less being total failure.

Hating on PSU means golden clicks for viewers, especially in SEC country and those who just hate PSU for being PSU. Who else are the podcast nimrods going to spew hatred on, SMU? They don't generate a buzz like hating on the big, bad, evil empire that is blue and white and corrupted to the core. Controversy sells ads and we are an easy horse to flog every time in the media.

There is no one who has any real credibility that says PSU does not belong in the playoffs.

PSU has an easier path because Texas cant figure out how to beat UGa. If PSU had defeated Oregon and all else stayed the same Oregon would be 5 seed and Texas would be 6 seed

Dude, you keep posting the same thing over and over. Stop worrying about the media. It's a weak look.

24 hour news and sports (including X) may be the worst thing to happen to America in my lifetime. Perhaps #2 is the people who put any stock in #1.
CFPC did PSU no favors in recognizing that they earned a spot in the playoffs.
That being said, the game is played on the field. No outcome is preordained. Vandy beat Bama ...NI beat ND...etc.
SMU isn't coming to PSU to roll over. Win or lose the sun will rise on 1/2/25...for most of us.
A win or two in the playoffs would be appreciated.
On the other hand, what would many here do....what purpose could they have without Franklin to kick around?

All very true. I always believe what someone says about PSU. People always tell the truth. If the media says it, I believe it without question. They never let personal bias cloud their statements. Itā€™s all true. They say nothing but objective truth.

Seriously, huge praise to Coach Franklin, staff and team. Great season. Great job. Screw the haters. They did really well and deserve compliments, not hot garbage from jerks.

I'm sure it's all just a big misunderstanding....but on the other hand...this is what we're up against.

Marshall, I agree with you 100% this year. This is all true. Iā€™m serious. This is a good post. People should read it. It will help with their outlook.

Yes it was a good post...however watching the B1G championship makes it difficult to believe outcomes are, if not predetermined, at a minimum have a bias.

The last part of your post is accurate. Penn State must win their next 2 games in order to avoid the failure label. SMU and Boise State are very winnable games and Penn State has more talent.

Lastly, one way to combat criticism is for Franklin to win a game against one of the better teams. He has another shot to do this in the playoffs if they reach the semifinals.

So in other words he has to win it all this year or itā€™s a failure.

If we lose at home to SMU they were probably correct. If we beat SMU & Boise they were wrong.

Gasbags all. They know nothing more and likely less about Penn State than people on here. We have seen the warts and know what to expect but I'll tell you this, this team can play with anyone. They might lose but the other team will know they were in a tough game. Give me access to film clips (available on YouTube), access to data (available through NCAA portal) and I'm at least as well informed as any gasbag out there. ESPN is nothing but gasbags in waiting who hope to one day be peers with the likes of Klatt, Pate and Finebaum et al.

I wish they would explain why Texas was ranked higher than Penn State.

This is silly. We would kick the crap of the next coach. What did you think we'd do?

I believe many in the media see us as a very talented team physically, which is very inconsistent and makes a lot of mental mistakes.
They see us as a very talented team that can't seem to get over the hump vs top opponents. They aren't wrong. Let's hope that changes in the playoffs.

You just described every team in the playoff except maybe Oregon.

My post was very, very clear. I said win the next 2 games.
Then you said to combat criticism he has to win the next one after that. And of course, if he loses in the championship, it will just be one more example of James not being able to win the big game. This script is already written no matter what happens unless PSU wins it all.

For clarification, I responded to 2 separate points raised by the post that started this thread. The poster touched on what represents success. The second point was related to external criticism by the media.

In terms of success, making it to the semi-finals would represent a successful season in my opinion.

In terms of external criticism, I believe it will continue until Franklin starts to defeat the better teams. He will get his chance if Penn State reaches the semi-finals. This does not mean Penn State has to win a National Championship. Just making it to the final game will go a long way in silencing much of the warranted criticism.
