I thought so too but like you said its Mel Brooks. He's a national treasure. Plus he's done 3 of my all time favorite comedies.
Young Frankenstein
Blazing Saddles
High Anxiety

I worry that Mel Brooks can still be edgy and really go for it in today's (lack of) comedy environment.

Now that I hear it after so many years, it’s more like:
“Hi…aaannngg…Zi...Ah…Dee”

On a related note, I always had a thing for Madeline Kahn.

Watching episode 1 now and wow this blows,
Juvenile and not funny at all. Won’t watch any more episodes, a waste of time IMO.

A couple of thoughts:

1. Given his age, how much of the writing was done by Brooks?

2. Maybe they’ve been forced or have felt forced to dumb it down because some of humor in Part I doesn’t fly today.

Or the guy from airplane who made a hat and a tetradactyl out of the paper when asked "What he makes of it?"

Unfortunately, many of the reviews out there give a thumbs down and several turned it off after the first episode.

Haven't watched it (need to sign up for Hulu first), but that is very disappointing to hear. I thought Part 1 was an absolute classic, still very quote-worthy after 4 decades.

I trust your taste (or lack of!), when it comes to humor - and music, and PSU - so yours is an endorsement I take into account either way.

I watched the first two episodes and can't say that I was rolling with laughter. I appreciated a couple premises (e.g., Curb Your Judaism) but the ultimate execution seemed to be lacking. I'll hang in until the end in the hope that some gems will surface but I'm not optimistic.

The first two episodes took adjusting to and the last four have been great. I love the apostle sessions.

There was a successful remake in 2005 with Mathew Broderick, Nathan Lane, Will Farrell and Uma Thurman. Not nearly as good as the 1967 original.
Saw the Broadway show, a week before 9/11. Show was a hoot.
