Seriously, I think the problem is there aren't any closers on the market, athough Brian Fuentes can close and he's LH. The good news is that the Cardinals have a glut of OF's that they could trade- I'm guessing that Nick Stavinoha at Memphis could be trade bait, but I think that the Rockies are pretty solid in the OF.
I wouldn't be surprised if LaRussa and Duncan move someone like Wellenmeyer, Piniero, or Looper to the closer role once Wainwright and Carpenter come back. (hopefully)
Personally, I'd like to see Wellenmeyer get a shot at the closer role once everyone comes back.

You can forget Issy in the closer role. He's done with that. From what I saw the other day theres no way in hell that he gets the closer role back.
Carpenter is going to make one more rehad start for Memphis and then hes coming up. Wainwright is not far behind.
Todd4State said:except for the part about Boggs. He had three quality starts- including a shutout, I believe, and then he had one REALLY bad start when LaRussa wanted to save the bullpen and let him give up about 10 runs, which blew his ERA up.
I do also agree with everyone about not trading prospects, and I have also thought that Ludwick could be moved as well. I don't think the Cardinals will move Rasmus, they've invested so much in Ankiel that I doubt that they would move him, so that kind of leaves Schumaker and Ludwick left as trade bait.
If the Cardinals don't make a move, I will be OK with that. I don't think that there's really a whole lot out there, certainly not enought to warrant giving up someone like Todd or Boggs.
