Because the senior class this year would not be high school student-athletes during the 2023-24 school year.

Edit to add: I think MAIS has been counting grades 8 - 11 for years. So it's about time the MHSAA did this move.

True, but this ignores the 8th grade class that will move up to 10th grade by year 2 of the realignment. The real reason is MHSAA is run by morons.

Yeah, I'd like to know why they didn't consider grade 8 either.

My guess is the number of freshmens playing varsity sports is really small.
