This would return $80 Billion per year back to the states for Education. What are the Pro’s and Con’s?

Assuming it goes back to the states based on revenue collected basis vs just dividing evenly amongst the 50 states, Mississippi will get around $250 million or 7% of the annual state education budget. Not a big number, but better than nothing.

1. You'll see another significant round of teacher raises in Mississippi.
2. In theory, you will get rid of a lot of worthless bureaucracy crap. As long as you don't replace it, it will be a significant morale and productivity boost.
3. You will see some new schools be built. There are a few places that need new schools that can't because of federal requirements on keeping things racially equal.
4. You will see more consolidation in a few areas because Title I dollars won't be a factor.

Or Obama closing Guantanamo. Super easy to make campaign promises. Not so easy to make them happen…

I never understood the hatred of the IRS, you realize they don’t make the tax rules right? Getting mad at the IRS because of the taxes you owe is like getting mad at the cashier at Walmart because of the price of milk.
Their salaries are paid by our taxes. Over a million agents averaging $80,000 per year. They need to be private sector employees. We are gonna need lots of welders, riggers, electricians and plumbers in the Oil Fields. Time they got their hands dirty!

Exactly. It's Congress.

Not everything needs to be privatized. Private interest is much more easily corrupted.

Maybe education does, maybe it doesn’t. But the knee jerk conservative reaction is idiotic.

It'll be interesting to see how education data is collected and analyzed moving forward, if the Dept of Ed dissolves.

And I wonder what Dept will manage FSA, since currently the Dept of Ed is the largest provider of student aid.

Will it be better or worse...who knows.
I'm guessing itll improve in some areas or states and get worse elsewhere.
I'm also guessing the improvements won't track in ways that some narratives project.

We need more money in the classrooms and less in administration.

Maybe because of how they pick and choose who to target. You’ve obviously never had to deal with the idiots there. Post-Covid it is an even more ridiculous endeavor.
They are notorious for also going after the less affluent because those are the people who give in to their demands instead of fighting back with accountants and lawyers who actually are intelligent and know the tax laws.

I see no drawbacks. Any time you can get the federal government out of something it is an improvement
Get the federal government out of our military, social security and Medicare. No more subsidies for farmers. OSHA rules need to go along with FEMA. Individual states can handle all of that. The Morrill Act that created land grant colleges ruined higher ed. The federal govt provides about 47% of state revenue for MS. Get rid of that nonsense.

There's no chance DOE is eliminated
somehow I believe this is what is going to happen.....I do agree the best thing for public education is to leave it to the states, but i don't foresee the DOE being eliminated. No taxes on Social Security income is definitely never going to happen either.

This is a big question. The federal govt taking full control of FSA under the Obama admin is what has created the cost of college to go up by 200% since they took it over. And eventually led to student loan cancellation processes. Im not sure how this plays out, but when the Feds are in full control of anything, it always gets exploited, just as the FSA has. I have one starting college next fall and it is a total cluster 17

Ever since it became a part of the Cabinet (under Jimmy Carter) Education in the US went from #1 in the world to 30-something (currently)

our government has FAILED our kids. And teachers unions and rogue school boards are big problems.
We weren't #1 then. Government hasn't failed kids. Teacher unions need to be reigned in. Elections can change rogue school boards. American Asians and whites are among the most educated in the world. Hispanics and blacks lower the ranking but American hispanics and blacks are the most educated hispanic and black people in the world. Maybe reduce the DOE budget significantly. Some families fail kids but it would be idiotic to abolish the family as some on the left want. FYI, some of our educational outcomes are the best in the world.

A drop in the bucket compared to what we currently receive.

I don't think we have ever been #1 in that.

Nothing, and I mean nothing. Is EVER better after being left up to Mississippi.
