Ha, oops. Just posted a similar thread.

Talent level certainly plays a factor, but you can't attribute this performance to just talent.

Probably the worst defensive coach we will ever have - say what u want but he was calling the plays for us during his tenure and was terrible !

Kirby Smart was DC at Bama for 8 seasons? Who is actually developing UGA's defensive game plans?

Muschamp is a good X's and O's guy, he knows how to call a defense and how to coach a defense. His talent level here was the worst of anywhere he's been and that really isn't surprising. Outside of the three or so years Spurrier caught lightning in a bottle, the talent at Carolina just isn't as good as it is at our rivals. The state is a small state, population wise, and has two major college teams and is surrounded by some pretty good programs in other states. Whether we like it or not, Clemson is the premier program in the state and have been for some time now. Dabo is a clown but he has made Clemson the "cool" program in the state.

If you are a top defensive prospect in SC being recruited by Carolina and then Clemson, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, UNC and NC State come calling, unless you are a lifelong gamecock fan you are probably going to have a tough time picking Carolina. Muschamp was pretty good at Texas, Auburn and Florida defense wise and has been good in Athens. All of those places had/have better talent than he had here.

We may not have had the talent of Georgia, Clemson, Alabama, etc., but we certainly had the talent to compete with teams like Ole Miss. Muschamp had quite a few NFL defensive players to work with and successfully coached them down to considerably less than the sum of the parts.
