It’s kind of amazing that these bands that were “for the people” type acts like Pearl Jam and Springsteen gouge the fans at a time when they have more money than they ever dreamed of. Hell, Springsteen is letting his fans be gouged after he sold his catalog for phalf a billion dollars. It’s insanity. This is at Wells Fargo in Philly, less seats than a stadium. Ridiculous for a band supposedly “for the fans”! The Cure tix at the same venue last year from the Cure were about $65/ticket no matter where they were.
So much of the problem isn’t the bands, it’s Ticketmaster and the venues. Lots of bands have tried to protest but TM is THE MAN and art will never win outIt’s kind of amazing that these bands that were “for the people” type acts like Pearl Jam and Springsteen gouge the fans at a time when they have more money than they ever dreamed of. Artists are complicit. I don’t buy the “wow is me” act from people like Springsteen. He built a fortune off of the working man image but it’s always been a marketing ploy, not reality. And I’m a huge Springsteen fan.So much of the problem isn’t the bands, it’s Ticketmaster and the venues. Lots of bands have tried to protest but TM is THE MAN and art will never win out

Def don’t agree with ragging on Bruce calling him all marketing. He grew up with nothing. Didn’t make any real money for 7 years of hard work. Dude is real (imo)Artists are complicit. You feel the same way about Southside Johnny?Def don’t agree with ragging on Bruce calling him all marketing. He grew up with nothing. Didn’t make any real money for 7 years of hard work. Dude is real (imo)
He didn’t grow with nothing. That’s nonsense. He grew up in a working class family like I and probably most people on here did, which is not growing up with nothing. His father worked, his mother worked. You know who didn’t work for for years? Bruce.Def don’t agree with ragging on Bruce calling him all marketing. He grew up with nothing. The elder Springsteen held a variety of jobs over the years. He did factory work in a rug mill, drove a cab and worked as a prison guard. There was often a long time between jobs, and the family, which included Bruce and his two sisters, had to move in with his wife’s parents to make ends meet.He didn’t grow with nothing. I love Springsteen’s music and think he is by and large a decent human being. But he’s not the guy he portrays himself to be and has admitted as much. It’s a pose, a persona. It’s part reality, part show. He used to say in concerts, “Nobody wins unless everybody wins”, then all the sudden at 70+ years old is scraping for every last penny he can get his hands on from his fans and essentially said if the fans don’t like it they can go f themselves. Now, I don’t really have an issue with him or anybody else going for the money, but it certainly does expose his “man of the people” persona as a bit of a sham.
I think Bruce lives in Wellington, FL for his horsie daughter. Six months and a day, anyway. The elder Springsteen held a variety of jobs over the years. Pretty sure they moved in with the parents early in Bruce’s life. Reading his biogrography (not autobiography) I was left with the impression that he was doted on by his mother and grandparents and aunts but not so much by his father, which is where his issues really resides with his father. Over the last several years I’ve lost some respect for him due to his persistent crapping on and profiting off of his deceased father, who he acknowledges had mental health issues. I don’t know, I think people that admire him at this point do so against his own advice. The elder Springsteen held a variety of jobs over the years. So what did Bruce do to help out? Many famous recording artists were sons/daughters of share croppers and picked cotton or baled hay all day. Dolly Parton grew up w/ nothing.
