1. None of the qb's in the draft really impress
2. That makes me believe trade and/or free agent....like Gardner Minshew
3. NEED O LINEMAN

Although they'll likely have $40 million plus in cap space, there's so many positional needs so giving up 2022 draft picks via trade doesn't seem likely. I know it's not popular at all but Trubisky on a 2 year deal with a 3rd year team option for a reasonable price wouldn't be a bad deal. He made the playoffs a couple of times with the Bears with a coach that did worse after Mitchell was cut. The Bills had him on a one year $1 million contract last season so I don't think he's in high demand.

If he doesn't work out as a starter they can draft a QB in a year or two when the draft is more QB rich and he can be a quality back up.

Edit:

Need to sign Minkah to a contract

Edmunds is a free agent

Haden is a free agent

Tuitt doesn't know if he'll ever play again

Bush is very underwhelming coming off a knee

Schoebert is expensive for his contribution

Ebron is expensive and is expendable

Tomlin admitted the kid they drafted and moved to center didn't work.

Judging by his social media Juju isn't coming back

Here are the free agents next year from Googling it

Ryan Fitzpatrick
Andy Dalton
Cam Newton
Tyrod Taylor
Jameis Winston
Jacoby Brissett
Teddy Bridgewater
Marcus Mariota
Joe Flacco
Mitchel Trubisky
Tim Boyle
Blaine Gabbert
Chad Henne
Geno Smith
Colt McCoy
Dwayne Haskins

there are more but I don't recognize the names. Take your pick, who fits the Steelers Offense. Trade for Russell Wilson?

Trade up and get Kenny Pickett from Pitt

Talk Brady and Gronk to come out of retirement for one more season.

QB is slim pickin's these days

Mariota fits Canada's offense.

I'm ready for a 2003. Not much difference to me between that and the last few years, except maybe some decent draft stock for once.

Najee isn't ready for 2003. I guess Rudolf and Haskins don't impress much on the practice field. 🤣

As a Steelers fan I would be disappointed if they go with anyone on the current roster (Rudolph or Haskins) because neither is a starting QB in the league. Trubisky does interest me because I think he can be a solid QB with a better coach and team than he had with the Bears. Gardner Minshew could probably be had for cheap and I think is a better option than Trubisky. The word is they are extremely high on Malik Willis out of Liberty but since he performed very well at the senior bowl he may not be available for the Steelers without trading up to get him. Others point to Corral as being the guy they draft. I just don't think they will get a QB in this draft unless they trade up, which a lot of people think is silly with this group of QBs. Out of all the QBs in this draft I actually like Kenny Picket the best and think he could do very well in Pittsburgh.

I just don't think the Steelers are going to trade for an elite veteran like Wilson. It's just not what the Steelers typically do although they did go out and get Fitzpatrick so maybe? An elite QB is going to cost a lot more than a first they gave up for Minkah, though.

I heard on Pittsburgh sports radio that the Seahawks want 3 first round picks for Wilson....F**K THAT!
If anything the Steelers need to trade their first round pick for more picks in the draft or use their cap money to buy an OL and fill in other positions with draftees.

The problem with the Seahawks is they gave Russ such a big contract they couldn't afford to put a team around him. No thanks!

First two rounds offensive lineman keep Haskins at least and get a cheap qb for this year. Start from trenches first. Is Mariota cheap. He has to be.

Unless they get a star qb via trade for cheap, I fully expect them to go with Rudolf. He's cheap, knows the system, and has had success filling in for Ben. Whether they are a playoff team or not is questionable, but their rookie offensive players will all be a year older and they get Tuitt back on defense.

Here’s how the Steelers’ 2022 NFL Draft picks currently stand according to the draft order:

  • Round 1 (Pick 20)
  • Round 2 (Pick 20)
  • Round 3 (Pick 20)
  • Round 4 (Pick 34)
  • Round 7 (Picks 4 & 20)

Edit: I think there's a 6th round pick missing.

IMO that's the same as saying they don't want to trade him. Wilson is turning 34 during the season. What does he have 3, 4 good seasons left? I actually think Wilson is a better fit for the Eagles than the Steelers.

I think they'll give Rudolph a shot next year, and if it doesn't work out they'll address it during the following off-season.

How about Derek Carr from the Raiders as a stop gap? Might be able to get him without bankrupting the future.

But Fitzpatrick was very very young and still had years left on his first contract, in addition to already being recognized as an All-Pro player. Fitzpatrick, a perennial All Pro, was a steal for a first round pick.

I don't believe the Steelers will pay a high price for a temporary QB which is what Wilson would be at age 33. And since teams don't trade away young All Pro QB's I don't see the Steelers getting a top QB. If a team would take a 3rd round pick for a player like Wilson the Steelers might go for it. But other than that type of deal I believe the Steeler will either take a QB early in this year's draft if their is one they like available, or else just load up at the other positions of need (of which there are many with OL being at the head of the list) in this year's draft and then keep trying to trade for a veteran as other teams sort out their rosters and cap situations after the draft. And then go for a QB in next years draft, when hopefully there are more and better QB' available.

And with all the holes the Steelers will be trying to fill, I believe there is more of a likelihood that the Steelers trade down some time in the draft to get more choices than there is likelihood they trade up. The exception would be if they really like a QB and need to trade up in the first round and a team is willing to do so for a bargain price with the compensation being in future drafts.......

The word is the Seahawks are asking for three 1st rounders for Wilson. I can't blame them after what the Rams gave up for a QB that never played a playoff game: two 1st rounders, a 3rd rounder and Goff.

Wilson is a SB Champ and really should be a 2 time Superbowl Champ. It's going to be tough to get that kind of a return from any team, especially since he has a no trade clause.

Give me Mariota, Minshew, or Trubisky as a stop gap until they see someone in the draft they like. I don’t think this year’s draft has anyone worth getting too excited about. Draft Iowa C in Round 1, move Green to G. Draft Brisker in Round 2, let Edmunds walk. Let Ebron and Haskins walk as well. Need ILB, OL, and secondary help in the rest of the draft or through free agency. Possibly DL as well if Tuitt doesn’t come back. Sign Minkah long term.

And for the love of God, please……back up the Brinks truck and throw gobs of cash at Mike Munchak to come back to coach the OL.

Due to fact that a new GM will take control of the team after the Draft. I would like to see Steelers pass on drafting a QB in top rounds, and sign a free agent as stop gap til next good college prospect is in the draft.

I suspect Howie Roseman would trade Minshew for a 2022 4th rounder or 2023 3rd rounder.

Yep to all of this. What i have heard:
1. Next years QB is not on the roster.
2. Steelers will take Pickett at 20 if he is still available. I hate this.
3. coach doesn’t want to start over with a new QB would rather go free agent.
I think a cheap stop gap, Trub, Minshew, etc is the best way to go as there aren’t any franchise QBs in this draft. Build up all other positions and draft for need. We might suffer with a bad year to get High enough to get a top QB in 2023

The Stillers should send a second round draft pick to the Niners for Jimmy Garoppolo. Hang onto him for a year or two, or until the right franchise QB comes along to justify trading for.

I hope not. Garoppolo is the worst QB to make it to a conf. championship game, and any draft pick for him seems like a waste.

Any QB on this list from above of free agents is better than Garoppolo....... and I never even heard of a couple of them! ;)

I think they already have that crap in Rudolph. Of that group the only one I would even entertain is Trubisky.
