I thought the decision to kick the FG was the right call. The odds of it getting blocked and returned for a TD are so low, while the benefit of making it and heading to Cincy instead of KC are a solid upgrade. If roles were reversed, LA likely takes the knee since they had nothing to gain in going from Tie -> Win.

On the other hand, imagine if the situation and the roles were reversed. That is, imagine the Steelers playing the Ratbirds where a tie and they both get in, or one of the two could have ended the other's season with a last second field goal. It is a gurantee that both Pittsburgh and Baltimore would have kicked a FG to knock the other out of the playoffs. There would be no love lost.
Do the raiders and chargers hate each other? Is that rivalry as entrenched in loathing crushing hatred like the Steelers ravens?

For whatever reason, I really wanted to see the game end in a tie. The more and more I look at it, the more I believe that kicking the fg was always the primary goal. It was a luxury to have the tie situation as a back-up plan. Very rarely do we encounter such situations. The English Premier League schedules every kickoff of the 38th and final matchday at the same time. It was inappropriate that the LVR and SDC found themselves in that situation.

I am overstating the situation a tad. If the Steelers-Ravens and SD-LVR games had kicked off at the same time, both SD and LVR would have planned for a Pittsburgh win. But it was an uncomfortable experience to watch the SD-LVR game.
