I'm really glad this forum isn't inundated with whining about NIL. TOS is almost unbearable due to it. Anytime we lose a recruit, it's all the fans fault b/c too many sit on the sidelines. Then there's 15 different threads basically advertising for Carolina Rise, then turns into a boosterthon. However, we land Dylan Stewart and it can't be bc we had a good NIL package presented to him. It's lunacy. But, I did learn that each member of our WBB team gets $20K/yr on top of what they're getting on their own.

Now that I got that out of the way, a UGA site guy was on the radio this morning b/c they lost a recruit to FSU. He said Kirby is electing to not throw a ton of money at every recruit that comes along...he's evaluating each on a case by case basis. I was glad to hear that, b/c that's what it appears Beamer is doing. Yeah, we lost Solomon...the #269th player in the country. He would have been our 8th highest rated recruit at the moment. No way Beamer should have got into a bidding war over that guy. Let AU overpay for him. I think Beamer is handling it very well.

After we lost on Solomon, the dude who heads up our NIL was asked and he said that we absolutely do not make any NIL offers until a kid is officially on campus. He tacked on that maybe some other programs offer money up front.

Some folks wondered if that was an allusion to Auburn.

I wasn't really a fan of that comment. They should have been as vague as possible. There should be a standard canned response ready whenever asked. "Of course, it's against NCAA regulations to offer NIL to recruit. At USC, we follow all NCAA guidelines." That should be it. Not make it sound like it's a waste of time to try to get any NIL from us.

While we don't make any offers until they enroll, we damn sure make sure they understand their POTENTIAL. We're not getting Harbor or Stewart without doing that.

The pre NIL cheaters i.e. Auburn, Clemson, FSU, Miami, etc. are still going to cheat, it is in their nature. The difference now is; they aren't the ONLY programs able to talk money to recruits. I think the coaches like Beamer, Saban, Kirby, Kelly tell the kids that there will be NIL money but these type coaches sell the kids on the school and the future, where the real money is. I know Saban and Kirby both really point to the number of players drafted and the amount of money those players get when they sign with an NFL team.

I can't help but wonder how the top recruits who chase the big NIL numbers really are going to do long term. They seem like they are very short sighted and want the immediate gratification. We all see how many "top recruits" don't turn out to be stars (Burch as an example) so it will be interesting going forward how the NIL deals evolve to deal with players who don't perform like they were thought to. No matter how much money an NIL collective appears to have, the number of dollars is finite.

IIRC he said something to the effect that they have conversations about opportunities and potential. No hard numbers though.

What that's saying is that schools are controlling the money and that's not the way it's supposed to work.

Go over to the Insiders forum. Plenty of complaints.
