I think the problem is no one knows whose job it is to set some rules. One person, a judge, made a ruling in the Ed O'Bannon case and it started the ball rolling. Its been rolling ever since.

Is it the NCAA, the member institutions, the conference, the NFL, state govt, federal govt? If someone does take control, is it just going to be challenged in court?

Whose job is it to fix it?

That train has sailed and the Tall Ship is rolling down the tracks! The Jet is on the Highway and Cars are flying into the wild blue yonder!

The Genie is out of the box! And Merlin's head is covered with snakes while Medusa is magically disappearing into the bottle!

It's pretty much all settled now, since there essentially are no rules, and we have a settlement to pay players directly from the TV money pot. It is what it is, get used to it. There are no 'guard rails' that can be set up. Collectives will still pay more if they want to, and there's not a dang thing the NCAA can do about it - because you simply cannot stop someone from giving money to another person if they choose to do it. The only true guard rails is the tax law and that's outside the NCAA. So may as well just give it up and accept the system.

You are betting off (well, the athletic department) finding the best way to stretch our dollars, and developing a recruiting/retention strategy, rather than wishing for the days of old. If I'm MSU, I'm allocating all non-TV dollars (and non-alumni earmarked dollars) toward non-revenue sports - because they will need the help moving forward.

Edit: If both sides can agree on The ncaa Clearing house portion in the House Settlement, that is a great start to taming pay for play and
Going to a true NIL. If there isn't a ncaa clearing house, I don't think pay for play and transfers will ever be changed from what it is now.

But the whole situation reminds me of the South Park episode when they're trying to keep the Walmart from destroying the town. They couldn't figure it out until the end when they went inside the Walmart and looked into the mirror.

I can look in my mirror and know I didn't give a damn thing to NIL. They had me at first. I wanted to believe in helping and being a part of something bigger ..... what a joke. Nope. No longer.

There is only one option. Lobby courts for employment status. Thats it. That’s the only way to put structure around this.

All the position coaches are gonna hate the headaches of approving football players’ work hours to send over to HR…

This is me, except I never bought in to paying into at all. The sentiment is spreading too on this board and talking to others at lunch or at The Dude or at church. One by one people are seeing the ridiculousness of it and they are falling by the wayside as are ticket holders. In time only corporate sponsors are going to keep it afloat and not sure if they don't look at it and say that if their corporate audience doesn't believe in it then is that wise use of shareholder funds? It's not sustainable as is and at some point athletes are going to say but y'all have to pay us. Not if there's nothing to pay.....

We only care about that because we're MSU fans. Making players employees would completely ruin the game.

How? Contracts and certainty would
Be far better for the game. Only a matter of time until a school gets Nico’d midseason. I think all fans want some structure and that’s how you do it. I think everyone wants NIL to be actual NIL

How does one lobby a court??
By arguing it in one of the millions of cases they keep getting sued in or before the NLRB is my best guess. I think you are taking the word “lobby” too literally.

I am really amazed how one lawsuit so that college guys could get paid by a gaming company for using their name and likeness could open up a Niagra Falls of **** into college sports. I am happy the SEC is at least taking a baby step in slowing down the transfer portal. I hope it is the first Dominoe of many to fall. It's going to take the Big 10 and SEC to fix it.

At this point I don't care what they do. They have already destroyed college sports as far as I'm concerned. I'm not donating anything other than my annual Bulldog Club donation. Personally, I hope it all fails going forward. Do you really care that a team that spends the most wins the NC? It is a farce.

The other side of that coin....When a team spends enough to make the playoffs and doesn't (looking at you TSUN) it makes me happy
