No more fake punts, they never work

I can't remember the last time MSU faked a punt and it worked . It clearly gave La. Tech momentum they rode until Banks picked off the toddler in the end zone. If its 4th and less than a yard why can't we line up in the goal line formation and run ballard on the iso? Does Dan even have a goal line set in his playbook?

The UGA posters (who obviously havn't watched MSU games this year) in the MSU/UGA thread are going on about how the sure way to beat them this weekend is to run fake punts. Apparently they have been burned big by them a lot this year.

However, in that scenario it made much more sense to try the fake punt. We were around the 50 and it was 4th and 2. <div>
</div><div>In this case, it was 4th and inches, and it is a much higher percentage play to just line up and blow them off the ball to get an inch or two. </div>

and it failed then too. Looping a runner at least 10 yards back to get the ball from the punter, to then turn and have to sprint to try to get 1 yard is NOT a well-designed play.

If you're going to fake it there, I would've rather gone for it. Like you said, it's 1 yard.

Perkins ran about 25 yards across the field for no gain on the play. But there apparently are 2 rules of life regarding MSU football: 1. Trick plays NEVER work for us 2. Trick plays ALWAYS work against us. Apparently Mullen hasn't learned these rules yet.

USM had lost momentum against Virginia and was losing 13-7. At the start of the second quarter, USM was punting out of their own end zone with the ball at the 7 yard line with it 4th and 15. Damned if Fedora didn't call a fake punt and it worked for a first down. USM drove the field to score and never was behind again. I had never seen a fake punt out of the end zone.

On several of our punts, LaTech dropped all but 1 player (left to make sure ball was punted) back on punt return... Several times, our punter could have run for a first down. Our fake was dead the moment perkins hit the field... When I saw perkins line up on the right end, I turned to my wife and said we are gonna run a fake... If I knew it, you know LaTech smelled something... Surely we can do a better job than thatt...for half a foot no less...

You'd better be sure it's going to work if you call that. Otherwise, you've just turned a 13-7 game into a 20-7 game.

After all, he's just looking for an opportunity. And we all know if he's given an opportunity, he will get that extra yard or score!**</p>

Most pathetic/Best 4th down conversion I have seen at Scott Field was around the mid 80s. Kentucky's punter was about to punt the ball when he looked up and noticed all the Bulldogs turned running to set up a return. It seemed the punter ran 10 yards beyond the LOS before a State player turned around to see where the ball was.

..against Memphis and LA Tech. Failed both times. Scratch that one off the list.<div>
</div><div>Hopefully that fake was a setup for some better fake to be played against somebody that matters.</div>
