While I may not agree with the BOT decision, I will not turn my back on the institution that I owe my career and my marriage to. You are free to boycott if you want, but finding solutions to problems would be far more effective.

How can people find solutions if they don't have access to information, if they don't have a voice?

Not my problem, but coming here and whining about it solves nothing. If it is information you seek, and you feel there are laws being broke, as Barry apparently does, write some letters and make some phone calls. I would totally support transparency. Again though, coming here under an anonymous name and whining gets you nowhere.

Here’s the thing. People on this board are at different stages in life. We get it. You are past your PSU involvement days. We hear you say it repeatedly. However, your stage in life might be much different from those of us who aren’t that far removed from PSU and/or have students there, etc. So, the daily disparaging of PSU does become tiresome. Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, it’s just some of us refrain from yelling it from the mountain top daily.
Hey. I get it. A lot of what I read here is repetitive, but there are easy solutions. The easiest is to use the ignore button and you will never have to deal with my insufferable repetitions again. Now, I personally have no one on ignore, but that is not to say I don't ignore certain people. I just see their post and I don't read it. The reason I repeat as much as I do is because so many of the threads bring up the same issues. I am not posting that drivel in Olympic threads, or Cheese Steak threads. Still, I understand it can become tiresome but I just can't help myself.

I think by this point even Diane Lane is rolling her eyes when you post you won't be going to Penn State games.
My Diane??? 😲 Horrors!
I think I need a Board break and so I will use this opportunity to take an extended one. See you all down the road. Peace to all and May God bless us, every one.

Brief clarification...My Board break has nothing to do with this, or any other, thread. I was going to be off the Board all of August anyway. The Gambits will be traveling extensively, leaving early tomorrow. We will be visiting family and friends, never leaving the States. While I will generally have internet access, our schedule is full though early September and I want to take the time to relax and enjoy my time with those closest to my heart. To friend and foe alike, all the best. May God bless us, every one.

I won't donate to the school. I won't go to any games or possible playoffs. I will tailgate at home. I will get ice cream from a friend who makes it in his kitchen from a family recipe. I will sleep in my own comfortable bed, and eat and drink in local restaurants, or better yet, at the Gambit's table with food prepared by my wife who is a terrific cook. Either way, it will be shared with family and friends. I will also continue to enjoy my life, but with far less hassle and at a fraction of the cost. I did all the other things for 40 years, except for the playoff thingy, and so I know what its all about. I far prefer my current choices. That said, it is, in the end, about choices. Your path is the one that I chose for 4 decades. I wish you, and others who have chosen similarly, safe travels, good weather, many wins, and much happiness. May God bless us, every one.
How many times do you intend to make the same point?

if you were the donor you say you were, why don’t you contact the school and eloquently tell them your reasons for not donating anymore. Perhaps they don’t read BWI and don’t realize Mr. Fairgambit, Class of 19…. is so disenfranchised with the university that he is withholding donations? Has anyone here that whines routinely actually attempted to contact the leadership at PSU to voice their concerns? Or do you just come here anonymously to do it?

I will let the OP speak for himself, but since I have a similar view, I will answer for myself. I am still here because I enjoy the level of discourse, even among those with whom I disagree. I also stay because the Board is not limited to Penn Stare topics. Cheese steaks, Phillies, Pirates, musicals, hot women, Olympics..... I often check-in here and see a breaking news story that I was not aware of. Finally, I stay to provide a balance to those who think all is well in Happy Valley. It is not. Penn State has a lot of problems and they will not be resolved by ignoring them, or treating them like they don't exist.
That said, Welcome to the Board. A bit of advice. Unless you are here just to troll, starting off with a derisive post against a long time, valued board member, is not a good strategy.
You can find the non PSU topics somewhere other than a PSU board. You are here for PSU topics.

Do you really come to a PSU board for cheese steak and Phillies talk? Cmon.

Exactly.... call your governor or congressman like LB99 says and tell them PSU needs change immediately.... that will get us going quickly down the road to fixing things right? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
Have you tried? How many BOT members did you contact? PSU Adminstration ? Local and state government officials? Local and state media? If you feel laws are being broken and you feel that strongly about it, maybe seek legal counsel? If you haven’t, sounds like you are giving up before trying. I don’t always agree with Barry’s tactics or logic, but I respect his willingness to challenge the status quo legally because he felt laws were broken. If enough people didn’t stop until every rock was turned over than maybe your voice would be heard. If you truly want to make a difference, then do it.

They might not notice the absence of someone to one or more games, but they do notice the withdrawal of what promised to be an eight-figure donor. They still call. Do anything? Not at all, pilgrim.

Fair point, but I have to ask, have you voiced your concerns and reason for withholding to the powers that be. Or did you just silently withdraw as GrimReaper?

Many of have done this multiple times. The lower level folks who do work with fundraising who I have interacted with (one was the son of a floor mate of mine, oddly enough) get it and some have told me they are hearing a lot of the same thing that I've spoken up about. But the folks higher up aren't listening. So be it. I do plan on writing a brief letter to the Penn Stater. I do not expect it to be published. I also plan on asking them why I did not get an election ballot this year (I did get the nomination one).

Oh good. You’re managing to somehow blame a governor that was just elected in 2023 for your PSU BOT disappointment. You’re the first to make this dumpster fire thread political. Bravo.

Since I am a bit old-er, and have a better understanding of the history of the makeup of the BOT (learned from 2 past Presidents and several BOT members, past and present) -- the PA Gov. and the Legislature determine the numbers and appointees to the BOT. We have tried to make changes since the 1960's - they do not listen.

Oh and BTW - I might be a bit old-er, but my oldest daughter is also an Alum, and my oldest grandson will be a Freshman next fall and my youngest grandson will play as a CB somewhere - hopefully PSU. I am not removed in supporting and hoping students receive a quality education at Penn State, I hope the inner workings and decisions of the Administration and BOT reflect the best under changing economic policies.

If there might be interest - I can suggest an economic policy committee from another school, that would gain better profits than PSU.

While I do agree totally with fairgambit I do understand his position. I donated to my college for years, not much but something every year. After the Sandusky thing I stopped giving and sent an email to the development people and the Dean on why I stopped and why I did not want them to contact me again.
I still attend football games and pay for 2 Season Tickets. But it is now about seeing old friends rather than just going to the games.
As for this board I agree with fairgambit that more is discussed here than PSU and I will learn of other stories.
The BOT needs to be changed. The Ag folks need to be reduced. Same with the Business and Industry folks and no naming your successor. The number of folks on the board should be reduced to a manageable number.

RO, were you in Ocean City NJ last week? I saw a guy on the beach that I suspect was about your age with a shirt that said "I may be old, but I got to see the best bands". Immediately thought of you.
