This one has stuck in my head for all these years since I got it out of my mail box at State in 1976. What a great picture and love the expressions of those in the stands/on the bench.

I agree. That was a great one. This thread is a bummer. I used to love seeing all the amazing photos these sports photographers could get. Especially when they were using film and couldn’t take 8 pics per second.

Anyone that hung around the Jackson Bar Scene during the Disco Era did a damn sight worse and many probably bragged about it the next day!
As I think about it, it was the "high definition" of the times. Shots of the Triple Crown, Olympics, Masters, all of the team sports, etc. were just so sharp and with vivid colors you could never really get on your 32in console TV or in a newspaper.
Still photos have always been mesmerizing as you look at the details and imagine the scene in your own mind. Kinda like reading a book versus watching a movie.
Pretty sure it was SI that got the Phelps finger tip touch in Beijing. Saw an interview where the photographer had an idea to put a still camera in the bottom of the pool. Lots of stories from SI photographers and their ideas and sometimes good luck capturing some incredible shots.
Not a big horse racing guy but mentioned Triple Crown based on this as probably the second thing I think of concerning SI photography.

Maybe it needs a new owner and editors who refocus the magazine to make it more progressive and enlightened. Hire some journalists who support social justice causes and know that their morals are not only different, but are superior to the average sports fan. It's move the dial time toward justice. For instance, celebrate trans women in sports, even at the high school level. For the Swimsuit Issue, until it's eliminated as retrograde and gross, let Americans know that beautiful women come in all sizes no matter their ages and shame Americans likely to shame women by including more women who look like Lizzo to ensure that in our more moral age that toxic masculinity isn't acceptable because all women slay and look stunning, especially those unlikely to have made it into an IMPP thread and those not likely to impress his successor, Hugh's Burner Phone.

it used to be there is a topic, a journalist would research it, gather facts, then a story is written.
now, the writer has an opinion, they gather anything to support their opinion, they drizzle in buzzwords, and they write an opinion piece disguised as an article.

ETA: I don't particularly like Trump and wish he would lose or drop out of the primary, which obviously isn't going to happen, but I'm much more bothered by how people excuse any behavior on their part because of this orange boogeyman they have made up.
