The outcome of this decision will be very telling.

If he chooses Oregon, it will send a clear signal that relationships in recruiting, no matter how strong and how long they have been nurtured, have been firmly bumped to the back seat by money. Why waste years of time and energy recruiting a guy if all that tips the scales is money?

Conversely, it he chooses us, it will be a strongly reaffirming message that relationships still matter.

Could be a paradigm shift in recruiting. There's no doubt our staff has the strongest relationship with Harbor and his family. They have poured themselves into recruiting Harbor. If another program with no relationship at all can swoop in at the 11th hour, offer a sweet NIL deal and get the recruit, then all those months of hard work are for nought.
Exactly Right.

That would all be plausible.

Looking at the On3 recruiting rankings, we are still 16th after adding a 5 star. I don't get it. But, it does not matter as we added an instant starter to the program.

Well, this is a major win for good old fashioned recruiting. Relationships still matter.

According to his On3 profile, he has a 3.8gpa, his father is a NASA engineer in Greenbelt, MD and his mom is a pharmacist. He's undecided as to whether he will major in pre-med or engineering! When was the last time we heard something like that from a 5* recruit? While I know that nobody can ignore big time NIL money, my guess is non-guaranteed NIL promises probably influenced him and his family a lot less than it would many other recruits. Odds are, this was well-considered decision by him and his family.

My question now is: Can he play basketball too?

Better question: can he COACH basketball?

That's a very good point. They have us credited with a 5 star. BUT, they may not yet have recalculated the rankings.
Well, we had sixteen 3* recruits, which is the most of anyone in the top 20. One 5* won't offset that very much.
