I'm involved with designing some of the special pieces for the F-150 Lightning and have been in the auto industry my whole career. Ford is really going all in on electric vehicles and has reacted to the strong customer interest in the electric F-150 by increasing investment in additional capacity. The price on the vehicle is low in comparison to other electric vehicles since the majority of parts are shared with the much higher volume gas F-150. The main differences are the electric drivetrain, unique frame and the independent rear suspension.

If you read some of the reviews of the Ford Mach-E Mustang (electric), you will see that Ford has done a really good job in that vehicle and the vast majority of customers are very happy. I would expect that the F-150 Lightning will have similar glowing reviews once it is in production. Given the maximum production capacity and the number of preproduction orders that Ford has received, if you order a truck today, it will be about 1 1/2 - 2 years before you receive your vehicle. Given that time delay, you should not have any concerns about any early quality issues that might happen (Ford does have this program under a microscope so problems should be minimal). I'm not sure what the Ford product plans are, but I know that you won't have to wait too long for the all-electric SUV's to be available as Ford has announced multi-billion dollar investments in new battery and electric vehicle facilities.
Thanks man, that is some great stuff.

Love the concept, but buyer beware of first year products. Just bought a hybrid F150 this weekend. Dealer said the factory is stopped taking reservations for the lightning. They don't know when it will be available. They are having similar issues with ordering regular 2022 F150's. Factory will continue to ship 2021 but not 2022 due to the chip shortage.

I really like this. It’s not something that would work for me because I do outdoorsy stuff in areas without access to electricity. If you wanted a truck for the city, suburbia and short trips in the country where you have access to electricity then I think this is a brilliant option.

Not sure if this was directed to anyone in particular, but I will answer

I have never owned a pick up truck - never really had the use for them. Truth be told, I still don't. However, I find this to be intriguing because as mentioned before, Ford took it's #1 product and introduced it in a new space, but still made it look and feel like something it's core market will be familiar with. If they took this platform to the SUV market, it would be amazing for them.

Other than the motorcycle, I have a Miata as a toy. And, God willing sometime in the next 12-18 months, I will have a small plane.

They are eminently practical vehicles. Get a color matched hard cover that locks and it is the most trunk space you will ever have. Don't want things to slide, then a simple antislip mat or spray in bedliner will do the trick. The beds also have slats to slide 2x4 in to keep boxes and other stuff further confined. I can't tell you the number of times I've picked up mulch, landscaping supplies, lawn mowers, arcade games, appliances, furniture, etc or just threw the golf clubs in the back with a cooler. Your bike would probably fit easily back there and not even need a trailer - a simple winch, ramps, stand, and you're all set.

Yeah, they are. I feel this version is even more practical. The entire front truck (frunk) can fit two sets of clubs and there is a cooler under the floorboard for having the 19th hole at your vehicle. Not really a home fixit guy, so the 2X4, mulch, etc - I wouldn't be carrying it. I hire someone to do it for me. The bed is 5 1/2 feet long, and I don't think my bike would fit - it's probably too long even with the tailgate down.

Honestly, this truck would be a great PSU tailgate vehicle, with all the storage, plus plug in for blenders, etc. Plus the cooler. Or, at Brigantine Beach with a beach chair on the bed, looking out over the Ocean.

So, here is the thing - the base model starts at $40K, with a 260 mile range (with 1000 lb payload in the bed). Even if you gussie it up a bit, and come up to $50K, you may still get a bargain -considering you won't put gasoline in it. Plus I think there are still government incentives which help reduce the cost.

I will consider it more if you have a photo with one of your luscious babes spread out atop the hood in a provocative pose. I really do like the truck.

Well, it does have a 10,000 towing capacity, and you would expect to get less range pulling 10,000 lbs. just as you would expect to get less fuel mileage in a gasoline truck pulling 10,000 lbs. But, since it's electric - no loss of performance.

I think Ford hit one way out of the park on this one. I am not a pick up truck guy, but this really caught my eye. I would hope they can transition the platform to SUVs (perhaps even bring back the Excursion) and it will be a great vehicle to have.

89.45% of pickups are driven by people who have no need whatsoever for a pickup
67.83% of the people who drive them would faint dead away if asked to spend a day working on a construction site

What does stock ipo have to do with how the truck may/may not preform?
Money begets research begets awesome performance. Show me a car company not backed by cash killing it. For example Greeley is paying for this:

perhaps my last ICE in AMG 4 spec

Might have to experience a shoulder that keeps “popping out “ prior to the acquisition . Have about 5 buds with Raptors . They love them . Couple of Platinums in there too . No Lithium buddies other than Tesla S.

I'd bet on the M2 retaining significant value over time in comparison to the new m240
On a value retention standpoint , it seems bmw is commited to continuing V8 production . Benz is phasing out all 8s and going to a 6 plus electric motor . The AMG G wagons are selling 100k over sticker in Cali . Manual 2s will probably be hot going forward . Not many manuals left .

Apples and oranges. Lotus has built cars since I was a kid. Money may help ( and be an be vital) in research but you were talking about a new unproven truck vs a proven product. Apples and oranges. Moving the goal posts.

Edit: the rivian is still butt ugly!

Sigh…that’s how it starts …

So when I lived in Pa and dated my wife on Sundays we would drive her VW cabrio convertible through those fun gorgeous twisty curvy roads to a different breakfast spot (worst roads in the country)…..

I know live in the place that has the best roads in the country straight straight wide and flat with no potholes….boring roads I might add.

The only turns we make are 90 degrees and are limited….do you see a benefit?
Funny I ask cuz when I upgraded my F150 with the Fox shocks and BDS control arms it was much better in the rear end amazing actually…the TT having a small wheel base and my roads what benefits?
