Has anyone ventured over to the old Pitt board to see what they’re saying ? I can’t go….I’m banned there.

I love that the Steelers drafted Andy Dalton Lite. It will feed hundreds of posts on this board as he fails miserably over the next couple of years and ends up as a backup in the USFL. The only way he succeeds with the Steelers if if they play Detroit every week. That would be much like his senior year at pitt when he pumped up his stats by playing a cupcake schedule. At least Pickett won't feel so bad when he fails. His purtrid Wonderlic score indicates that he has a very low IQ and probably won't realize what is going on.

Just another post by this clown dripping with hatred and condescension for fellow Penn Staters.

I forgot to put you on ignore on here like I had to do on the old board after all your fascist cheerleading.

That being said I absolutely hate the pick.

Oh yeah I'm miserable, dude will get what he wants. Years of lamentations.

I'll say it, it's time for the Cliff Stoudt jokes now.

And I really thought they were going in the right direction after free agency this year. Silver lining is they didn't trade up for him.

With the sad and untimely death of Haskins I/we knew they would have to do something but like you I thought it would be the FA route or even possibly a trade.
I just don't get this. He's not that good.🤷‍♂️

I was laying in bed half asleep going NOT PICKET NOT PICKET pissing off the GF when the pick was read. I'm so glad I have other much worse life problems right now so I won't be stewing on it.

They are not drafting a Center. They signed two free agents capable of playing C and have invested in a high draft pick last year on a Center.
You were right. Love or hate Iowa, and Robert Gallery notwithstanding, an Iowa offensive lineman is about as close to a sure thing as you get in the NFL draft. The Ravens got a good one. I hope the Steelers did, too.

I wasn't overly enthused with Roethlisberger when we picked him. I remembered Iowa picking him off 4 times in the opener that year. He turned out to be a Hall of Famer. I'm not suggesting Pickett is that good, but let's see him in black and gold before writing him off entirely. Based on some reaction videos the Pitt fans who are also Steelers fans are pretty pumped. The Penn State fans who are Steelers fans, not so much. I think if it was close among the QBs available the Steelers were going with the Pitt guy since they missed the boat with Marino.

What's confusing is Canada wants to run a motion college style offense and they picked one of the least athletic QB out of the class. Should they just fire Canada now or wait until after the season?

Lindenbaum was sitting right there. 10 year starter? Now the freakin ravens have him. Tomlin drafts looks and not substance. Perhaps their thinking was take picket now becasue we like him and then take o line first round next year and perhaps second round this year. Who knows but man the guy is 24 already.

I know what you're saying but they just signed these free agents to 3 year contracts.

It occurred to me that this is what it must feel like to be s Jets fan. I too thought of a lesser version of Andy Dalton when the pick was made.
Just keep this in mind. It's better to draft an overachiever than an underachiever.

I say bring in even more Pitt trash (Kenny might be a good guy and a good player, I don't want to totally trash him before he has a chance, but FUDGE this sucks as a Penn Stater). Why can't they hire nar-do-do for defensive coordinator? Make it a clean break for me.

I have mixed feelings on the pick; I do think Pickett is likely the safest QB in the draft, but as noted, he's older, might have peaked, etc. Still, he's been extremely productive, can move if need be, and has been pretty successful. He's improved each year too. That said, I do think in a draft with no sure fire 'can't misses', maybe take a swing at Willis since I think his ceiling is higher and probably out of his reach (though maybe a lower floor than Pickett). Consider these two stat lines and tell me what you think....

4,486 yards, 37 TD, 10 INT

4,319 yards, 42 TD, 7 INT

Those are Roethlisberger's best year (top) compared to Pickett's (bottom). With Trubisky, the Steelers can bring KP along a little slower, but probably could have moved a bit to get him a bit later. We'll see, but interesting pick.

I would have preferred they went FA route or via trade.
WR or LBR were my 2 hopes as their first pick.

They have last years draft pick and two free agent signings who can all play center. Why would they draft one?

If we're taking all their trash might as well trade for Aaron Donald too. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It would be nice, if the Steelers are going to draft a pitter, that they turn into one of their one every decade all-pros.
All I’ll say is I’m not convinced Pickett will be a bust. 42 touchdowns is 42 touchdowns. Whatever. I’ve always been a Steelers fan when their interests don’t conflict with Washington’s.

I'll admit I'm just ignorantly whining. I just hate pitt and don't want to root for any of that team's players.

He could be a the biggest steal of the draft. It's not often the first QB off the board is pick 20. They definitely got their man.

I'm posting about this way more than I actually care about it for some reason.

I wonder how much the Burrow factor played into this -- get a new QB in the first round, spoon feed the offense and voila after a couple of years you are in the playoffs or better. Except: 1) its never that easy and Burrow got hurt and sacked often. 2) Pitt doesn't have a Chase on the roster, and 3) Pickett isn't Burrow.

Shaky pick for sure right now. We'll find out in 2 years, 3 at the most.
