On a scale of 1 to 10, how do you fell about signing Dylan Favre?

I don't dislike it but I am not thrilled about it. He put up monster stats but watching 5 foot whatever over the past few years has me doubting that his football talent will be diluted by his physical limitations. Solid back up to have though.
he has been very productive and produced a state championship playing with basically an academy team in 4A football. He is not going to play next year regardless. Now he has every chance in the world to prove himself. At minimum I think he will be a solid backup in emergencies in the future and a great guy to run the scout team next year.

three totally but as I have watched him and listened to his comments I have to move him to a five. He may have the intangibles to be an effective qb so I give him a 50/50 chance. I know alot of that same commentary went with Tyson Lee, smart qb, great leader, etc. but I have to tell you Lee ended up making alot of bad decisions which really hurt him. Farve has the same gambler mentality as his uncle which may get him in a hell of a lot of trouble at the SEC level, but it should be interesting to see how it turns out. I know he is determined to make a lot of people eat their words and I hope he does.
The guy can flat out throw that ball. I hope that he can grow another inch or two during his red shirt and freshman years. We should get some great PR with his Uncle and hopefully Brett will make it to some of his games and be on TV. I can see him being way better than Lee and Heing ever was and the fact he wants to be here so bad is a big plus as far as I'm concerned.
We use one scholly to give a chance to a clearly talented, record breaking QB with a rich Uncle. He has more potential than a whole lot of guys I have seen sign at MSU. No one is saying he is the future of MSU football, but he is worth one scholarship. If he doesn't work out as a backup QB, he transfers. Oh, well. On top of everything, this is not the year to get our panties in a wad about QB recruiting. Save it for next year.

Look, we have a RS Freshman QB that by everything I am hearing looks really good. At the very least Favre is going to be a good Rudy and help push the competition. You just never know what is going to happen though. Would I rather have Newton, hell yeah, but Favre could end up being a good pickup for us and if he's not it probably won't hurt us that bad. It's also tough to run off at the mouth about in-state recruiting and then ignore the Mr. Football for Mississippi so it is a nice credibility stamp.
8- he was the best we could get at this point! Will he see the field for the next two or three years? Not if Relf and/or Russell turn into really good QB's but if he gets his chance to get on the field then he will be the best we have and will win some games. He can play!
when your head coach says " we are going to sign the best players in Ms first." you can't not sign the player of the year. I agree with CDM that you have got to control your home state first. Besides that I thnk at the qb position there are alot of intangables that can not be measured in physical stats. A winner is a winner regardless of circumstances.
Still wish we had Newton as well, but you cannot ignore the stats. Like it was said, if we are going to be THE destination for MS recruits- I think that means you take the MS Player of the Year if available. Like I said in another post- no way we sign 25 players better then him so he's worth a shot.

And I'm going to say the NFL in Flutie's days is still much bigger, faster, and stronger than today's college game. And he was damn impressive.
The thing that stood out the most in person, and I suppose its true of the NFL in general, is an appreciation for the speed of the game. Flutie was damn quick moving and throwing.

Assuming 5 is the number closest to apathy. I don't see Favre being developing into anything other than depth chart filler.
Good for the kid that he gets a D-1 Scholarship, though. Unless he exceeds my expectations, which I hope he does, I'll consider this a PR scholarship.

with what was remaining to pick from? My 8 was not based on expectations of what I think he will do, just based on the fact we needed added depth to the position. And although it's a long shot he will make it as a starting QB, he could be a decent backup down the road.Coach34 said:
