Hopefully Bardstown for the Kentucky Bourbon Fest in September. Summer, beach time in Cape May and lots of golf and lake time at our friends house right up the road. Perhaps a nice European river cruise in 26.
Enjoy Bardstown. Nice little town. There is a cool monastery nearby (close to the Makers Mark distillery) called the Abbey of Gethsemani, home of Thomas Merton. It’s worth a visit to hear the cloistered monks sing the psalms, if you’re into that sort of thing.

If we go it will be a trip offered through the alumni association. I assume they use busses to take you to places like Sorrento & Positano.
And possibly boats. We had a boat ride from Positano to Amalfi scheduled as part of our tour, but higher seas caused it to be cancelled.

There are so many 'places' around the World to see, it would take a lifetime and a big bankroll to see them all.

May I suggest - do not miss Alaska .... It is so big and beautiful - I have many pics from floatplanes, tours and wildlife - too many for this site. One can be close to everything when you travel the mountains and state.

New Hampshire (North Conway?) - never been in that state before. Washington state for photography. All NH suggestions are welcome.
Crawford Notch, Mt Washington Cog Railway
and Sugar Hill if you're there in Lupin season (june)

Question for the board

Do people still set up and have vacation accounts? So you set it up so a portion of your deposit to the bank gets sent over to another account that you have for just saving for a vacation.

I seem to remember my parents friends having them when I was a kid, but not sure if anyone using them anymore.

I know some places of business/ unions have these types of accounts
I remember years ago my Mom set one up at the bank ( they has vacation club as well as Christmas club) but when she found out they didn’t pay any interest on the money that ended that
I think with the wide spread use of credit cards I think most people just use them and pay them off as they can

Since it's 13 degrees out and I'm putting off taking out the garbage, any trips/vacations planned for 2025?

Anyone ever taken a trip to Poland? I don't speak the language well enough to try that on my own, but if I could find a group that's going that's something I'd consider.

In late March and April, I'll head to Florida to catch the Pirates open the season and start checking out apartments to avoid 13 degree days the rest of my life. Then of course in fall, there's always college football trips.

Any trips/vacations you have planned in 2025?
Praha sometime this summer. Grandparents from Plzen. Dobry Den.

We were in Poland several years ago and really liked it. Very underrated place. We were mainly in Warsaw, Krakow, and Częstochowa. Pulled into town and were walking around when we saw crowds by the street. Next thing we know, the Pope was driving by. Would love to spend some more time there.
Poland is one of the stops for us this Summer - Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria.

Nice. The big cities? The potatoes are going to be awesome.
Yes, we've done the Trafalgar tours over the years. They generally hit the biggest sights of every country or city. Two years ago we did the Denmark, Norway and Sweden tour which was very cool. You are on the go nonstop (super tiring) for about three weeks, but you see and do a lot.

Lovely. You’ll have an amazing time. As for going non-stop, that’s a necessary evil.

Can’t go wrong with any of those countries. Vienna is probably my favorite city in Europe. Budapest and Prague are also great even if some of the mysterious ‘behind the iron curtain’ aspect is gone. Bavaria is a must see. Lots of interesting small tows in that region right out of a storybook. That’s a really great trip you have set up.

I've learned to build in a break day. When we were in Italy last year, we spent one day just hanging around our Agriturismo (farm stay) in Tuscany. To some extent, our travel days were break days too, when we took trains to various destinations. The Italian high-speed trains are very good. Rental cars have gotten very expensive, but you really need them to do Tuscany outside of the big cities and it gives you access to farm stays, which can be very good. One of ours was on a sheep farm where they made their own pecorino cheese. Amazing food.

Regrading "behind the iron curtain aspect" - I was hoping some of that still remained. I was in the service in Germany the late 80's when it was still East / West. We wanted to go to West Berlin, but with all the unrest at the time they frowned on service guys going (the Wall fell about six months later). We did go to Austria back then, just like stepping back into the 1950's. I guess things have modernized after 35 years.

I was in Berlin in September. My wife and I remarked on the different feel of East and West Berlin.

Yeah, Budapest and Prague have modernized some but you can still see that old charm and picture the old Iron curtain days. That’s also true in eastern Germany where you can still see bullet holes in buildings from WW2.

When in Budapest- absolutely take a tour of their parliament building. It’s one of the most incredible buildings you’ll ever see IMO. Also, don’t be afraid to leave the city for the countryside (or at least pay attention as you drive through it by car or rail). You’ll see people hauling goods by donkey pulled carts. You’ll get more of that iron curtain feel there I think.

There is a area near Nordbahnhof that has a long stretch of the Wall with a guard tower as an open air museum. I did go to East Berlin in 1973 and 1978 (the latter while on Penn State's Foreign Studies program to Cologne).
