All I got to say is, I sure hope Shane was right. If we have good D this year, he'll look like a genius for not doing anything with what many people viewed as an obvious problem. If our D puts up a repeat performance from what they did most of last season, he'll look like an idiot for not doing anything with what many people viewed as an obvious problem.

Yep, he passed on some seriously good DC candidates who had the potential to be mainstays of his staff long term. I also hope it was the right move.

Right. It wasn't a situation where you just have to hope you can find a good candidate if you fire your DC. There were 2 excellent options just sitting out there.

How much of him keeping White had to do with recruits and current players? maybe he knew some would leave if White left so he is hedging his bets on things turning around and not having to do a complete overhaul of the defense.

Wait wait wait!! You mean you think that maybe our coach has more knowledge and better inside information about the going's on of our football program than all of these people on Gamecock Central who have been to x number of games and been fans all their lives? No way!!!

That's always a factor to consider. Never been in favor of retaining an underperforming coach in order to keep a commit. If the D does well next year, Beamer can have a nice "I told you so" towards those who thought DC was a no-brainer firing. IF the D struggles, it will call into his question his decision-making, as there were a couple solid upgrades just sitting out there waiting to be hired. For our sake, I hope it's the former.

This type of thinking is why we've been average for our whole existence. Fans who put coaches on pedestals and think they can never be wrong because they get paid to coach. It's idiocy to think someone has to get paid for a certain job in order to have an opinion about said job. At this point in their tenure, Muschamp had 2 more wins and 1 less loss.. is Muschamp still a golden calf that never makes mistakes in your eyes? Or were we justified in complaining about what we saw on the field while he was here? Based on your reply I assume you think we should still have him as our head man since fans are dumb and can't know anything about football since they don't get paid to coach it.
