If I'm not on tap w/ Yuengling, I like the original Michelob Light. This beer was everywhere in the 80's and 90's, now it's actually hard to find. Very tasty beer.

having been fortunate enough to travel some, just about every country in the world has their own version of Pilsner or Lager, everyday beers that do not overwhelm a meal. Though Tgar does not drink beers all that often anymore, when traveling abroad, he always asks the locals what is the beer of their choice that is local. It is always a low ABV semi light, cold crisp Pilsner or lager. Belikin, Quilmes, Peroni, on and on, the list is endless.

Yes, in Ireland he reaches for A Red Ale, Smithwick’s, also Low ABV and crisp. In England he may ask for a Guinness, also a low ABV beer.

The fact is, there are many excellent beers brewed locally as well as worldwide, so, maybe the answer is ……..whatever beer you like best.

Having holed up in the Skook ( IYKYK ) for a portion of his life, nothing brings it home like the offering of Yuengling beers. Lager, Pilsner, Lord Chesterfield Ale, Porter, all delicious with a meal.

Enough pontificating, back to focusing on the glass of Cab Frank sitting to his left.

+1. Michelob and Michelob Light were very good, they also had a dark beer that was very good. Now the only Michelob I can find is Ultra and no way am I drinking that.
I tried to get a keg of Michelob Light down here in SoFla. I'm sure it would have been expensive ($200+ compared to $155 for Yueng), but it's not available in keg form in FL for some reason.

For all the problems AB/InBev have had, why this beer isn't marketed is sort of beyond me. It's not light at all in today's world. It's a perfect middle beer. Lighter than regular Michelob, but that stuff is very rich, & it's 20 times better than an Ultra.

My favorite is Spotted Cow, but I don’t get it very often. My go to beer is Fat Tire, but with food I like Blue Moon. In the fall I’m all about Sam Adam’s Oktoberfest and in the spring it’s Cold Snap.

Selecting a beer is like selecting a wine to go with food, lighter beers for chicken and fish, darker for red meats. While my favorites are porters and stouts they are too overpowering for most foods. Don't overcomplicate it. For most meals a good quality lager or pilsner will work well. For red meats a brown ale would be great. Everyone's taste is different and I love wheat beers so for me that works with anything.

...an aside, I did a lot of work for John Taylor on Jup Island. His family history is wholesale beer dealerships in Boston and KC and now Fort Pierce. I used to love to talk to him about the business of beer at that time - when AB bought LaBatts (and thus Rolling Rock).

He told me what was going to happen w/ AB and Rolling Rock and he was right. He said they care nothing about Rolling Rock, they just want their market share.

He also had the foresight to lock up Yuengling in this area. What could be simpler? Trucks run from Tampa to Fort Pierce and more trucks run from Fort Pierce to most of the east coast of FL.

$$$$$

There's a reason he's living on Jup Island.

Cold Snap is very good I thought Sam Addams had another spring beer before Cold Snap that I liked a lot but I can't remember the name. Cold Snap was introduced in 2014 so this would have been in the early 2000's. They have another one called Porch Rocker that I always liked.

Yes, it's made in Maine, I believe, and you can only get it in certain places on the East coast. I am going to have 1 or 2 this evening, I'll make a toast to you in NM > LOL

Yea i had no problems getting it when I lived in Bmore. Alas the things we give up for weather. It’s been sunny and in the high 70’s for the last 2 weeks. Trying to figure out vegetables to plant and when. 🤔

Thanks. Your winter has been pretty bad. My mom still lives in Western PA and it’s been bad there since Thanksgiving. Good luck with the snow and be careful shoveling.

Light beer is not beer

I’m with you on Yuengling. My daily is Lager but I prefer Oktoberfest as my favorite daily when available and throw in the Black and Tan to accompany winter stews.

I haven’t tried the Bock yet but I would expect that to be added to my rotation.

Yes! I say this all the time. Especially during business travel. One Sam Adams BL has the best taste and buzz for just one delicious beer.

I love Fat Tire too.
Even better for me at least is Sam Adams Octoberfest which I still have a case. Wahooo.

Had a New Trail Amber Lager on draft at Duffy's Tavern in Boalsburg and it was great with dinner. Picked up a 15 pack this weekend

Hands down, my favorite beer. As high ABV as it is, it somehow hits above its weight for me. It tends to have a sort of hallucinogenic effect on me.
A couple summer ago I had a few of them and was sitting, drinking another on my back deck, staring at the neighbors pine tree. My wife came out and asked me what I was doing. I said, “You can’t hear it, but I’m talking with that pine tree.” She just looked and said, “Are you sleeping on the couch?”. I nodded and carried on with my evening.

Anchor (R.I.P.?) used to have like a 3.2 product in a big format (~22oz) bottle called small beer. It was great with many foods, but particularly good with the mussels they served at Hopleaf in Chicago. Hopleaf skews toward the Belgian side of things, but they have a solid variety if you look hard enough. I typically didn’t (don’t) drive if I anticipate having more than like 2-3 drinks, but this one gave you more latitude.
