They haven't had 3 conference losses in a season since 2010. There was already a strong "this never would have happened under Saban" undercurrent after the Vandy loss. If they take a 3rd regular season loss for the first time in 14 years, he won't be on the hot seat but that'll make next year a "prove it" year for the fans. Unreasonable? Yeah, but when you only lose 18 conference games in 17 years, starting with 3 off the bat when you inherited a title contender won't sit well with the base. Taking his first year out of the equation since he inherited a mess and took 4 conference losses, Saban had 14 conference losses total in his final 16 seasons.

I'm only old enough to list the following CFB dynasties: Nebraska, Miami, Florida St, Florida, Bama.

Point is, dynasties rise and fall and sometimes fall completely off. IMHO, Bama had their run and it's over. Their fans will never accept that reality and that's what makes it so wonderful to watch. Denial. They're like Clemmons fans, but much classier. Unrealistic and delusional as they may be.

The old adage is that you never want to be the man to follow the man. DeBoer seemed like a safe bet, and he may very will give Bama their desired ROI, but the fans, undoubtedly expect title contention every year. 10 win seasons ain't gonna cut it. Heavens to Betsy if they miss the expanded CFP this year...

He is super safe. Saban's first season was 7-6, Kirby's first season was 8-5, even Bama fans give a new coach a "Mulligan Season". I think DeBoer wins out and finishes 10-2. The CFP beauty pageant committee will put Bama in the 12 team playoff because they are Bama.

Now, if he loses a couple conference games next season and doesn't play in the SECCG there will be some grumbling.

I could be wrong, but I think Alabama ran Bill Curry out of town after achieving 10-1 regular season record.

Alabama trailer-trash CLASSIER than the Upstate hillbillies??

I just don’t know about that. After all, they are Clemson.

But I really need to update my definition of “classy.” Maybe I’ll mosey over to the Ol’ Miss Rebels campus and poll some real classy members of that clan for a definitive answer.

Me: “Excuse me, sir, may I ask you a quick question?”

Billy Ray: “Sho nuff. Whas up?”

Me: “I’m from South Carolina and a few of us on the Fighting Gamecock forum wanted to know who was classier, Clemson or Alabama. Do you think you can help us?”

Billy Ray: “Aawww, man, thas eazzy! Isss Klempson!”

Me: “Forgive my cognitive hesitation but can you give a reasonable formative example?”

Billy Ray: “ . . . Huh? . . . .”

Me: “Okay, okay. Let’s try again. Why did you pick Clemson?”

Billy Ray: “Ooooh, ‘cause it onlaaay takes TWO Klempson boys to eet thar supper of ‘possum!”

Me: “Two?”

Billy Ray: “Yeesss, jus two . . . one Klempson boy to wach fer traffic and one to eet the ‘possum!”

There's no comparison whatsoever between what Saban and Kirby inherited and what DeBoer inherited. Kirby inherited a good, top 25 team. Saban inherited a mess. DeBoer inherited a top 5 team.

Also, I said he's safe. But there's no doubt fans will get antsy with a 3-loss season. They actually already are.

He still gets a pass for one season. After that, they will accept no excuses.

I never said otherwise, so I’m not quite sure what you’re responding to. Heck, my title explicitly says he won’t be on the seat.
