One thing this confirms: he ain't trying to come back to college to play for Vandy. From the article: "Pavia's attorneys argued that Pavia would suffer immediate and irreparable harm without relief from the court because the transfer portal opens on Dec. 9."

The judge rightly determined there was no need for the restraining order as Pavia has known about the restrictions for quite some time.

As it pertains to his future at Vandy, they're gonna lose their final 2 game to LSU and UT. It's a certainty Pavia would not play in the bowl game as he's trying to gain his extra eligibility in time to hit the portal as soon as it opens. If I'm Lea, I bench his a** for the last 2 games. Move on. You've got your 6 wins, which is probably all you're gonna get, Pavia has made it clear he's not part of the future, so move on without him. Don't give him 2 more games to audition for other schools on your dime and on your time. This is what would happen if football were still run by men with backbones.

Good point. Very good point. I would bench him 100%.

And, if Pavia is denied his extra eligibility, then he would have screwed himself out of playing his last 3 college games.

Vandy needs to have some dignity here. I know with their history, much like us, you can feel desperate for wins, but this ain't worth it.

That is a really interesting observation. Things that make you go "hmmm." Assuming the logic holds up to further scrutiny and pending my interrogation of Pavia, I'd really be leaning towards benching him.

I’m lost on why you’d bench him. Let me state that I hate NIL, and believe a player should only be able to use the portal once. I don’t like the situation, and don’t agree with the lawsuit.

However, Lea made a statement that pretty much said he knows Vandy is going to lose the majority of players with NIL value. He took Pavia knowing that. No use in benching him now.

Yea, I would keep playing him, without him you become old Vandy, why do that?

If I'm Vandy we can get our "dignity" back next year when we lose 10 games like did before when we lost 10 games with dignity in 2021 and 2023, LOL

It’s one thing to play guys who you assume are probably heading to the portal. It’s another thing entirely to play a guy who has made public that he’s entering the portal the second it opens.

Maybe if he was a different maker down the stretch. They aren’t beating Tennessee or LSU anyway. With their defense, they should probably match up pretty well with whoever they get in their lower tier bowl game anyway, with or without him. Even so, you’re talking about selling your entire dignity as a program for one win?

I don't think, they think in that way, they beat Alabama, lost to Texas by 3, they probably are not just conceding games in their mind at least during this current season.

This is college football, in 2024, who is rewarding or thinking about dignity so much, LOL

Most likely he’d be gone.

However, the article said he wanted to get the extra year approved so he can begin to negotiate a NIL deal with Vandy. I do believe he’d stay if they give him enough.

Vanderbilt is not beating LSU or Tennessee. Period.

Pavia ain’t sticking around for a bowl game.

So what’s the advantage of playing a guy who would literally ONLY be auditioning for other jobs?

I seen no reason NOT to play him on account of this. NOT playing him wouldn't make them a better football team - that I can see. He was just working an angle to get more time.

Had he been successful, it would have impacted a lot of players, and schools would have had the option of auditioning them in JUCO without having their potential availability diminished.

He was just working an angle to get more paid time since he obviously does not fit the profile of an NFL QB. No need for the school to be offended.

I would play him. they are better with him. I would not punish the rest of the team to make a statement that won't matter in the long run. Now if he refuses to play then he is hurting himself.

It seems common sense, self-respect and masculinity all left town on the same train.

It's a man bun and skinny jeans world.

I sure would be tempted to sit him and even lean that way. My concern is how this looks to future portal players though. How many times will I lose or not get a player's commitment because he's concerned about finishing a year if I didn't think he will be back next year? Kinda makes me feel like I have one foot in the new era and one foot in the past. Not sure that's a good place to be standing. Tough call.
