Don't know the whole story, but for now, well done JPD. I'm tired of this type of **** in my city.

If I didn't have a 5 month old it wouldn't have scared me as bad. But the JPD really surprised me. They were actually really helpful.

The JPD need to do this once a week. Maybe that will deter some of the jackasses from crossing the tracks and stealing our ****. What the %%** is wrong with Jackson anyway?

"When officers arrived, they tried to remove Longstreet, but he became
violent, striking one of the officers in the face several times. Vance
says Longstreet then retreated to the rear of the restaurant, where he
grabbed a large pizza cutter, which he began swinging at the officers.
Police say when he reached into his back pocked to retrieve a small
police baton, an officer fired, striking him in the abdomen."

67 year old with Pizza Cutter

Sounds like a drunk or crazy old guy, maybe it was dawgbreeze...

Officers aren't taught to "wing'm." The only question is why a tazer wasn't used, assuming he had one. If the officer, in his split second decision, thought that lethal force was necessary then a center mass shotwas his only shot.

the public would be in an uproar then as well. I'm personally sick of idiots fighting the police and then getting upset with them when force is used.
Cops are faced daily with threats to their lives and never know who or where it will come from. If we want less "police brutality", then let us go to public policing!***
Seriously though, I've watched COPS enough to know people do stupid stuff and I sympathize with cops doing whatever they can to subdue a perp.

Cops (or otherarm bearers)are only supposed to shoot someone when their life or someone else's life is in imediate danger. If a cop intentionaly shoots someone in a non-lethal area, the cop and city will be sued (they'll probably be sued no matter what, but that is beside the point) by the injured man or his family. They will argue that the cop did not feel that his life was threatened or he would have shot to kill, therefore there was no reason to shoot at all.

Guy ran in with cops chasing him, grabbed a pizza board with the handle, started using it on the cops. He and his girlfriend are still standing there. Then, the cop reaches for his gun. So the bad guy reaches for his too (we were re-enacting this, so his reaction is priceless) before he's shot in the stomach by a cop.

Had another girl I grew up with's house get broken into this summer while she and her roommate went to Gulf Shores.

Neighbors called the police, and then called her roommate's Dad. He called them 4-5 times before he got in touch with anyone at a local precinct. Ridiculous.

Listen, I'm not saying he should or should not have shot the guy. I'm just saying that you can't use lethal force in a non lethal way. That's why the stun gun was invented. Now let's get back to uniform talk and hysterectomy scars.

It was obvious to us not to buy in the city. I have owned homes in Madison and NW Rankin County and have always felt very safe.

If he reached for a gun to pull on the cop, the bullet should have split his medulla oblongata in half. To hell with wounding him. Don't want that ******* back on the streets in 1 to 3 after the jails are purged for lack of space.

Beat up JPD with Pizza Spatula

Looks like they thought he had a gun, so the Cops tried to kill him. How do you let a 67 year old beat you up with a Pizza Spatula is beyond me, I would have beat the crap out of him with my police baton.

"There was a large instrument with a piece of sheet metal on the end, used for retrieving pizza," Vance said.
Longstreet
then allegedly attacked the officers with the spatula. When he reached
for something in his back pocket, officers were not sure what he was
reaching for and felt threatened. An officer fired one shot, Vance said,
striking Longstreet.Longstreet
was found to be carrying something "exactly like a police ASP baton,"
Vance said, referring to an expandable stick-like weapon used by police
in hand-to-hand situations.

They said attacked. For all you know, he was coming after them then reached for his back pocket. I am glad that shot the guy. Here's a novel idea - if you don't want to be shot - listen to what a cop says.

Come on now, let me embellish some.... I am all for the shooting, the more these thugs get shot the better the crime deterrent. I am all for the Castle Doctrine..

My friend was there and gave a witness report. They shot him in the stomach in front of him.

EDIT: But, I think the cop was grabbing for his first. Something like that. I came in mid-way through, but I'd already heard from him that he'd seen that.

for you to choose to shoot to kill? A cop is trained to defend himself and others by whatever force he seems fit. It is up to that cop to determine the severity of the situation he is in. we had two cops get killed several years ago because they tried to reason with a huge man (pushing 7') in a domestic dispute. Needless to say the huge man took the gun from the cop and killed him and his partner. I say if a cop thought this crazy person was pulling a gun out then he has every right to shoot him wherever he pleases. I know I wouldnt wait until he had the gun pointed at me before I fired.

Trick shooters plinking on TV don't know what real pressure is. He was probably doing well to hit him in the abdomen.

Besides, if the guy couldn't check his **** when the cop pulled his gun, he needed shooting.
