This year Lexi Thompson has missed the cut in eight of the 12 tournaments she has played on the LPGA tour. Her last win was in 2019. She's currently ranked 25th in the world. Why in the world is she playing in a PGA event next weekend?

Lexi wants to see how the men mark their ball.

In response to your question, because she can. She's the seventh woman to play a PGA Tour event. Babe Didrickson was the first, and remains the only woman to make the cut in a men's event.

There are better, more deserving, players on the LPGA tour who could have received an invite. Maybe she's the only one who said yes - I guess that's possible.

Because it's the same weekend as the UMass game and she figures if she makes the cut, she won't miss much.

If you're looking for the serious reason...it's because she's a big name that's marketable, good looking, American, and will bring more eyeballs and fans to the tournament. It's a sponsors exemption...they want someone that makes people pay attention to an otherwise underwhelming event.

My reply to that is Nelly Korda would have been a better choice. But who knows, maybe she declined the invitation.

And to add to this, the Shriners event has a horrifically bad field this year, worse than usual. Normally, they get a Cantlay, Finau, Fowler, and a couple other semi-major guys to play since it was a good jumpstart for the next season's FedExCup number. But since these fall events mean nothing for 2024 except for those trying to keep their job, the field list is the worst I've seen of the 10 times I've been at the event. So the sponsor has to get some juice for this event and this is how they hope to get it. It might bring out more women and girls for Thursday and Friday (depending on what the school situation is out there next week) but it'll be a pretty tough challenge for her to make it to the weekend given that scorecard yardage there is over 7200 yards. But hey, more power to her for giving it a shot. I just hope that if she hits a crap chip shot we're allowed to ask her about it.

She's the only other one that would make sense at this point (maybe Zheng, but a bit of a stretch still I'd say). But I'd think Lexi is more of a household name right now, and they likely care way more about that than the quality of the player (within reason).

She's the biggest hitter on LPGA, but that makes her avg senior tour and very short for PGA. To me her biggest issue is that she doesn't know or trust her caddie's yardage and club. She constantly misses short and long. She needs to become Nuke LaLouche and stop thinking.

Heck she can't win on the LPGA tour. This is pathetic!

Didn’t Sorenstam also make the cut when she played?

You need to understand thus is a PR stunt only. Her golf year has been horrible, but she will add buzz and sell tickets.

Lexi missed the cut… but just barely. Actually an impressive 2 rounds of golf…. Two late bogies cost her the weekend.

What's your prediction on whether she'll have more strokes on the course or in the club house?

Can confirm. She had about 300 people around the 1st tee on Thursday and a robust group following her round. The rest of the field had very little following unless they were waiting at a hole for play to come through. It’ll be interesting to see just how vacant it is today.

As for Lexi’s play, she acquitted herself very well and had just a couple of hiccups late or else she’d be here today. She found something in her game right before Solheim Cup and hopefully it can equal a win before the end of the season.

She's a good player, but her biggest problem is yardages. She doesn't believe her caddies or she is unable to properly take off the right amount for less than full shots. She's used her dad and 2 brothers as her caddies. She needs to kill the nepotism and hire a successful veteran caddy.
