Beck would be at the top of my list. Love most of the alternative music of 90's and Odelay was in my frequent rotation when it came out. Chameleon of sorts. Still producing good music and saw him a couple years ago. Thought he was great live! I would put in Duran Duran as well with Lionel Richie. I am guessing the NY Dolls will get some run also.

Who you got?

Wow! Impressive line up! Cutting to five will be really difficult I think; could probably make an excellent case for any five. That said, I'll go with two groups:

Deserving/Past Due

Pat Benatar
Kate Bush
Dolly Parton
Lionel Richie
Carly Simon

My Favorites

Beck
Duran Duran
Eminiem
Eurythmics
Dolly Parton
A Tribe Called Quest

I think some combination of the above will get in. I think Dolly is an absolute lock. Beck might be too. Benatar was a maverick for sure, and Kate Bush is someone who had a really big influence on singer/songwriters of today. A Tribe Called Quest is a bit of a turning point in rap; one of the pioneers in 'rap ecelctisism' and of course, a massive influence on many of today's acts. Eminem is as good and relevant as ever. I love new wave darlings Eurythmics and Duran Duran but not sure if their time is now. Will be a great show to watch whatever happens! I also think Rage Against the Machine are deserving, but they have a fairly small body of work.

Dude, it's the ROCK AND ROLL hall of fame.

Your opinions are as valid as mine but come on.

Yeah, I agree. Country music is well represented in Nashville, so not sure why country artists have crept into the R&R. Rap is a bit different since they don't have a HOF and they're more closely aligned with Rock and Roll spirtually. That said, I think the R&R HOF is now an umbrella for all types of music and the goal is to get the best/most influential of the various genres some recognition. Also, makes the actual HOF visit more appealing to more people.

+1. I made my picks using their (RRHOF) criteria and past precedents.
If it were strictly my view as a RRHOF I would have gone...

Beck
Duran Duran
New York Dolls
Rage
Tribe Called Quest

Agree on everything you've said. They ran out of key R&R artists a long time ago.

Every non-profit wants to continue when their goals have been met. That's why the drunk driving people are totally crazy now trying to get breathalyzers in innocent peoples' cars. They have to be pushing something. Same with this.

Cuntry music probably has it's own hall of fame. Dolly is a treasure, and yes she covered Stairway, but no.

Lionel Ritchie? Why on earth is he anywhere near this? Who's next, Air Supply? When can we vote for Barry Manilow?

Carli Simon, ok fine. But not in front of MC5! Kick out the Jams is a legendary album and worthy of enshrinement these days.

Agree rap is welcomed especially since the pool of artists is so shallow these days.

The way this is going, Queens of the Stone Age better be first ballot. They have a few years yet.

I think Dolly is an icon who has transcended her genre, though she's never strayed from country in terms of performance. The HOF also likes to put on a good show, and Dolly would be very attractive to them. She's getting older and is well loved, so I think she's in.

As an aside, one of my favorite reasons to watch SNL these days is the musical guest. I had heard of Måneskin, but didn't really pay much attention; sort of a glam rock band from Italy. I think they're really good, and have a really hot bass player (Victoria De Angelis) - attn: @psuro :

That's a sweet Danelectro she's sporting there. So sexy you almost overlook the other curvy sexy thing behind it...

Per this article:

Soundgarden and Outkast should be at the top of the list, but of course, SG will be a downer forever now. I saw them absolutely SLAY a month before the tragedy and it still haunts me. That will keep them out, which is a real shame. Also, Cornell's wife is a total you-know-what.

I also want to say that Beck is a modern genius. One of the true titans of the last 30 years of pop music. I saw his last tour and it was life-affirming.

I had to go review who was already in the RRHOF. One band to me glaringly missing is the J. Geils Band.

Anyway, I don't think Dolly belongs in a "Rock N Roll" HOF but she does transcend genres.

• Pat Benatar
• DEVO
• Duran Duran
• Eurythmics
• Judas Priest
• Dionne Warwick

These are my picks. There are some other on the list deserving, eventually. But out of the list I choose these.

My eyes must be getting bad. I don't see Jethro Tull or ELP on that list.

Johnny Maestro, lead singer of the Crests and Brooklyn Bridge, should be in the Rock & Roll HOF. He is not. He has never even been nominated and that is absurd. The Crests were one of the few interracial groups in the early days of Rock n' Roll, and with Johnny on lead, their sound was as sweet as any. Hits like "Sixteen Candles", "Step By Step", and "The Angels Listened In", showcased Maestro's great talent. Emerging from the Doo Wop era, Johnny had a short lived solo career (producing 2 top 40 hits) and then became lead singer of The Brooklyn Bridge in the late 60's. The Bridge had hits like "Blessed Is The Rain", "The Worst That Could Happen" and "Welcome Me Love", in 4 years selling 10 million records. The singing aside, Johnny was a true gentleman, often a rare commodity in the record business. Stars like Dion, Paul Simon and Billy Joel support Johnny's induction. It is long overdue.
Johnny died of cancer in 2010 at age 70. Rest In Peace.

I have been to the Hall. It's a great place, but the absence of Johnny Maestro devalues it.

Which one(s) are you questioning?

I don't think any of those are "rock and roll."

But you didn't make the list of nominees. Nothing wrong with those artists, they're just not rock and roll, to me.

I would not call Carly Simon or Dionne Warwick "rock and roll" but both are quite talented and deserve musical recognition. Dionne Warwick especially is a treasure to listen to. Check out her "Hot! Live and Otherwise" album - there is a ~20 minute "greatest hits" medley that is guaranteed to brighten your day. A throwback to the great era of "easy listening" lounge singers but not "stuffy" in the least - great range, emotion, and very classy.

If Louie Armstrong and Pete Seeger are rock and roll (and in the hof), so are they.

The Rock n Roll HOF has become a joke. A lot of influential ROCK bands and artists have not been elected or even nominated. The name should be changed to the Pop HOF because many of the artists elected or nominated are not rock artists.
