Its amazing how time buries things like this and we are able to find them. This reminds me of a show I just watched where some guy found an old boat that sank on the Mississippi in some corn field because the river changed and shifted like a 1/4 mile or something like that. Makes you wonder how much stuff is buried/stashed somewhere that hasn't been found yet or is not recorded in history anywhere.

Watched one of the movies (or the series many years ago). Nothing short of incredible what they went through and especially what it took for those who survived, given the odds against them. Must watch it again.

Made me laugh. Seriously, get the book in my OP. It has, I believe, every surviving photograph taken during the expedition, awesomely beautiful.

The cat and dogs were shot. After being shot, who knows.
I checked the book I mentioned in the OP and it says the dogs were eaten. I couldn't find any mention of the cat. (There's no index.)
