I’m in the market a new/used smaller SUV for the wife. Seems like the Acura and Lincoln might be nice. You guys have any insight?

If you actually mean small, I don't think Highlander or Grand Cherokee qualify as small.

Volkswagen Taos has been reviewed well. No idea on reliability.

Mrs recently bought a Subaru Forrester. So far it’s been an impressive vehicle. It was her pick and she’s spent 20+ years in Mercedes. I probably would have chosen the Toyota RAV4 if it had been my choice.

Another vote for Mazda. The Honda CRV isn’t what it once was, and neither is the RAV4. Tech and CAFE are ruining those cars

How small?.. the Caddy XT4 is a sweet little ride with an awesome screen and infotainment system.

I’d go with that or BMW X3 but the screen isn’t as good in the X3.

MIL recently downsized to a Honda HR-V. Great small SUV but road noise is a noticeable. I assume it's just a tiny sub thing. Great gas mileage. Fun to drive around town.

My sis in law has the xt4 and it rides nice. I got the xt5 and she wishes she went with mine instead. A little bigger but not a big SUV by any means.

We have a Mazda CX 5 and a CX 3. We love them both.
Careful with Mazda if wireless CarPlay is important to you. They only just started putting it on vehicles and still reserve it for premium trims.

Th 5 just doesn’t have that bigass wraparound screen that’s in the 4 and like they put in the Escalade. ….Yet?…

Got a Macan about 6 months ago and I couldn’t be happier. Holy smokes what a smooth ride. I can see myself driving this for a few years
If I had semi 17 you money I think a Macan S would be my daily. I drove one for a couple of hours back in May. It was….. nice.

Don't let her drive a CRV unless you're ready to buy one. Went to buy a new Pilot in 2008 and the damn salesman talked my wife into driving a "decked out" CRV. After11 years and 3 CRV's I finally got her into a pilot and then only because she could haul more grandkids in it.

My SIL's is a 2020 and it's not in it either. My 5 is a 2021. So i'm not up to date on the latest.

I have it in my CX 5, it's 2019. The CX 3 is a couple years older and doesn't have it.

My wife drives a Mazda CX5 and loves it. We bought it new and have driven it 28,000 miles with no issues. Feels a little more upscale to be a compact SUV..

Hard to find one of these unless it is the grand highlander
We have a 2021 platinum, the ole' lady loves it. Already survived one deer vs car incident. It gets high 30s in town and low 30s on the highway.

To the OP, only buy a Toyota or Honda, certainly not a Caddy or Jeep, if you want something that lasts a decade and hundreds of thousands of miles.

They’ve had it for a while now. I have it on my 2021 Mazda 6 & no issues. But I definitely agree be sure any vehicle you buy has it. Mazda may still have some base trims without it. But my advice is never buy the base trim of any vehicle. It’s just not worth the relatively small savings.

It really does. Had the turbo model as a loaner last year. I was like y’all just keep my car as long as you want. Had the non-turbo one as a rental 6 weeks ago & it had plenty of power for most people. It’s just a very comfortable & refined SUV for its price point.

I've got an Audi SQ5 that I love. Been reliable and handles well over 115mph.

Whatever you get splurge for the vented seats, you'll hate being in a car without it.

If you are over 6' and will be driving it any yourself, do not go with anything under 41 inches front seat legroom. My wife is 5'3 and loves her CRV but I am 6' 2.5" and my knees are under my chin when I drive it. Check the specs before buying and look at front leg room and the. Go buy her a mid-size with 41 or more inches of legroom. Stay away from the Lincoln MKC. It barks like a dog!

Got a 2024 crv hybrid that I love. It’s roomier than you’d think. I drive pretty easy, get 45-50 mpg around town. Out on interstate it’ll drop to 32-34 mpg running 75-80.

I wanted to compare it to a Mazda but no local dealer within an hour of where I live. I liked the crv better than anything Toyota had to offer, and price was a lot better.

Prediction? Pain.

Here are Consumer Reports' current top SUVs:

1000006009.png

Several of those, like the Lexus hybrids, BMW X5s, and the Highlander hybrid, aren't small SUVs, but the rest are. Also, the MPG listed is from Consumer Reports' testing, not the EPA estimate from the window sticker. (And the MPG that Consumer Reports lists for the plug-in hybrids is after the battery is discharged and electric-only driving is done.)

I've got a RAV4 Prime, and I like it a lot. Drives well, more than enough room, comfortable and relatively quiet, surprisingly fast, and super efficient. 45 - 50 miles electric-only range, which accounts for most of my driving. And then on gas after the battery is discharged, I can go 500+ miles getting close to 40 mpg. My brother and best friend have the regular RAV4 hybrids and they love them too. They're getting mid-40s mpg overall.

I have the forester. It’s ok. Father in law has the rav4 hybrid. Feels really cheap. Sister I. Law has the Highlander hybrid. It’s great. Test drive the Mazda. It was awesome. Opted for the forester wilderness edition because I needed some off road capability.
