We waited two years for that? Maybe it will get better but last night was not a strong start to me. In the five year lapse since they arrived in Jackson, Joel transformed from a badass vigilante bounty hunter to a therapy dependent "dad" content to tinker with little electrical projects? Ellie was completely unlikable last night. By the time she got bitten, I was almost hoping she got infected. I'm not sure about her new friend. She used to date the asian dude, then made out with Ellie on the dance floor, but has plans to "watch movies" with mid-50s Joel? It also felt like they went out of their way to make the women characters be in control of everything. The plan for the leftover Fireflies to kill Joel - led by the girl. The council running the town - Tommy and his wife, seems like his wife. The captain of the Alpine Patrol - was her name Kat? Anyway, a woman. Not sure what purpose the two dudes on the Alpine patrol served, other than to be the butt of a joke between Ellie and Dina (was that her name)?

I'm hopeful that it gets better but szn 2 ep1 is easily the worst of the show thus far.

From someone who has played the last of us part two, prepared to be pissed off. But that’s kind of the point. The first game was about love (Joel for Ellie), the second game was about hate. It was so dark and depressing I would take breaks for months. It took me almost a full year to finish it.

I refuse to watch it because of the casting of Ellie.

Because you didn’t like her from prior roles or you had someone different in mind based off the game? I’m not a gamer so I didn’t have an expectation for the character.

If it’s like the Last of Us 2 video game there’s going to be a lot of pissed off people.

I do think she was an odd casting choice. Kinda worked as a younger Ellie but there were better options probably. I don’t think she works at all as an older Ellie. I know the actress is 21 but I’m sorry she looks like an 8th grader and not at all like someone who is 5-6 years into this story.

Met expectations.

I have never played the games, but given that they put a five year gap into the show, I totally expected last night to be a set up episode. I will reserve judgment.

Is it just me or is the girl that they cast for Abby a near dead ringer for video game Ellie?

But yeah, I’m not sure how the writers are going to let the rest of this season play out, but I feel like they’re preparing viewers for a swerve from the game. Guess we’ll see shortly

I did not see that coming

I have some issues with some of the plot points, though

For the game players:

Is the plot really to dissect Ellie's brain as a first option when they get to Salt Lake City? I have a real issue with "we have the only hope for mankind - let's kill her right away and hope this works" idea.
Does Abby really not know about Joel and Ellie in the immediate aftermath? Did the nurses from the S1 finale really not tell the other fireflies about what they were about to do with Ellie?

That's just the start of my issues with the overall plot, but I will say that last night's episode had me on my edge of my seat.

NO GAMES...
Is this Shat worth watching, does not sound like it.
Not interested in games, nor ongoing soap operas.
Thanks.

I haven’t played the first game in years (it was released in 2013 and my last go at it was probably circa 2017) but yes that’s basically the crux of it I think. The show at the end of season 1 seemed to be very faithful to how it went in the game.

I seem to recall some flashback scenes from
TLOU2 with Abby and her dad where Abby definitely knew about the situation before it went down. But that game does a lot of bouncing around and is kinda hard to follow. I think they are addressing some of the complaints of the game in the show. For example, a big scene in S2 E1 doesn’t take place in the game until pretty late and it’s as a flashback. I am very curious to see how they structure some things moving forward. In the game, you play as Ellie for most of the first half of the game and then do a hard cut to playing as Abby for the second half, mostly in the form of flashbacks. A lot of people hated that so I’m not sure how it will go in the show.

Sounds like someone sounds burnt out after TWD
Sort of, I just want a show, with a conclusion.
If I can't get that, I DO NOT WANT to watch it.

I got burned out years ago, on never ending stories, that I had to tun in next week to see what happens.
And then some. 17'EM.

Truth is Alan Alda got in charge of MASH, and killed a great show, I have never recovered.

This show is more about pushing homosexuality than an actual good show IMO, not that there's anything wrong with that. How may gay characters and storylines do you need? I stopped watching.

This tracks for you.

The Nick Offerman episode in season 1 was straight up fantastic. It was just a damn good story.
It was 1 episode with a couple minor characters.

And a main character has kissed on a couple of people over the span of like 6 story years.

That's what you consider 'pushing homosexuality'? And it's 2025...there is no need to push homosexuality. If you see gay representation on TV and movies, it's just because characters have different sexual preference just like in real life.

I hadn't watched the show until I just binged it over the last weekish.

First season was damn good. And when binged all episodes together, season 2 has flowed with season 1.
